Best kayak rack for multiple

Trying to decide which rack would be best for multiple boats for traveling.

How do you define multiple? Most people never put more than two on the roof at a time, at which point you could use normal 'J' racks.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that by "multiple" you mean greater than 2 ... I have Yakima racks with Big Stack kayak stackers. The other factor is what type of boats we're talking about ... I can easily get 4-5 river runner/playboats stacked on my 66" bars by lining up the cockpits and alternating bow/stern forward.

It would help to know what kind of boats, and if you're using stock rack or aftermarket crossbars which are wider. Whitewater boats, use Thule or Yakima stackers. Plastic rec boats, use "J" racks.sea kayaks use "J" racks or saddles.or just put your whitewater boat direct on cross bars or even inside 4runner if you can.

Had good experience on Yakima here too, never tried more than 2 yet but sure it can handle them well.

Brother has Thule Hullivators on his Gen 5 and they work very slick. Our Yaks are Wilderness Systems Ride 115s that are quite heavy with all our fishing gear attached. Too heavy for one guy to lift to the roof and quite hard for two guys. With the Hullivators he can load and unload by himself with little effort.

Not sure about this but there might be enough room in between to slide a third yak in.
