Best knock sensor replacements?

Densos are widely considered the best. Now you can get a pair on fleabay for only around $25USD! I paid around $50 when I bought mine about 2yrs ago. Also, get a new oem harness.:tea:
 
yes stick with denso and the oem harness. Its way too much work to replace and put in a crap part that fails in a few weeks.

and if you have even the sightest leak in the vc gaskets, perfect time to do them, as you will have so much out of the way, stuff you have to remove to replace them, makes them so easy to do.

Thanks for the idea. I know I have a stubborn vaccuum leak I need to chase down while im in there aswell. Looks like ill be looking at those Denso ones from ebay - actually just got a giftcard as a graduation present, guess I know what that's going to!
 
Is the fix still working?

Been following a bunch of knock sensor threads, because guess what? Yep the SR5 i just bought now has the codes for the KS's.

So, I know I am going to have tear the top end off this thing to get to them and I want to make d*** sure I get the right parts for it, as it is my daily driver.

Mine is a '99 3.4l 5vz-fe and I have been seeing several different part number floating around for the proper KS's and harness.

Is your repair still working good with the Denso's?
 
I replaced mine with oem ones from the dealer. If it’s too good to be true, then it probably is

Do them once and be done

If money wasn't the issue.....

Almost 300 for sensors alone is already a bit more than I have laying around, but then I have to get gaskets, harness, antifreeze, etc........

So if these are a viable and dependable option..... 100.00 total sounds mighty appealing. The harness will definitely be OEM, as everything I am seeing and reading points to it being the real and most likely culprit. And it looks like everyone that sells this part # is saying it actually is an OEM part.

If you’re already as deep as the knock sensors, you may as well replace the knock sensor harness, upper/lower plenum gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, injector o-rings, and throttle body gasket since they all have to be accessed anyways. You could also reseal the water bypass pipe if you have any reason to believe it’s leaking.

You don’t have to remove the valve covers for this job, but if you suspect they’re leaking, it would be an easy time to do it (along with the cam plugs and half moons)

DENSO's website does not indicate that they still make Knock Sensors for a Toyota 4Runner: Find My Part

That Amazon link looks and smells fake. Nobody puts a photocopy of a parts barcode on their listings like that. I've got a pair of OEM knock sensors sitting in my bench right now, let me see if I can find some marking that indicates either a part number or manufacturer.
 
No photo, but took a look at the sensors. They have markings as follows:

[M]

The [M] is some sort of brand logo. It might be Mitsuboshi (no, I didn't spell it wrong) who makes the OEM timing belt for our engines. Definitely not a DENSO part though.
 
I was under the impression that denso and mitsobushi knock sensors were both supplied. A few year back ...suppliers like camelback listed both but then superseded to Denso. I had to do this job a while back,,,got denso's since they are interchangeable with the mitsobushi..when I pulled mine apart it had Denso's
 
and I would not do it..but on youtube a guy posted how he took a steel strap and a new harness and cheap knock sensors and bolted it to the block at alternator I think...
that bypassed knock sensors at block..and was able to drive with no codes and no knock info sent to computer

when I was moving to Alaska....and a few weeks before leaving it threw the code. ( of course)..I was afraid of it going into limp mode on the drive....that's when I saw that you tube thing...
regardless...I did it right...new knock sensors..new harness..and lots of other new stuff ( like gaskets)
I wonder if it was a knock sensor...as when I opened it up the harness was fried..this is supposedly the main reason for throwing code from what I have read on this forum...but when you in that deep..why mess around and not replace knock sensors unless you got time and enjoy twisting wrenches
 
This is what I used on my 02 T4R about 2 months ago. So far so good [emoji108]
