So I was driving in Beaumont Tx and this guy in a RX-8 accelerated and pulled in front of me, then had to slam his brakes because the car ahead of him slowed down. So I slammed my brakes...my POS 4runner brakes SUCKK!! and i kinna slid and I HIT his RX-8. Needless to say we both pulled over and NOT ONE scratch on the 4runner OR his black RX-8. I can say I was blessed because he was cool about it, and just said i was good and shook hands with me and went his way. So needless to say thank God. But question is I need new brakes..im at 60K miles with a 06 limited runner. What would you guys recommend? and my airbag light came on because of the fender NO bender. ahah. so how do i get rid of this?!?! Thank god for the new poly bumpers!:lookout:

I'm gonna be that guy so I apologize up front.
Take to the dealer, tell them what happened. Have them check the underpinnings behind the bumper cover and check all airbag sensors.
Don't take the risk, it's not worth the slight dealer rape. Just bring some Vaseline or Crisco with you to the dealer.
Give "god" a fighting chance and make sure your rig is a ok. :thumb3:

JayKumar, you're a better man than I am. I wouldn't have shaken his hand (basically his fault even though the law says otherwise), but appears as though he was apologetic and gracious, I still would've been extremely angry. Reminds me of what happened to me last night. I was doing 38 in a 35mph zone on a 2 lane road when this camry pulls up to me and rides my tail. Its night time and basically no traffic. I then proceed to slam on my brakes and he skids to the right (I heard tires squeeling, wan't mine). He then passes me on the opposite lane and looks at me (couldn't see anything cuz it was night) then speeds off. Funny thing, we came up on a light about 1/4 up and it was red, he was stopped. He must have gotten scared b/c he made a quick immediate left turn and turned his lights off. I blew the light and came at him, hahahha. This idiot turned his lights off thinking I wouldn't see him. Anyway, he was driving like a maniac trying to get away from me. I let him go (I wasn't going to do anything honestly, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who has tailgating as one of their top pet pieves). Heheh, scared the piss outta him.
ANYWHO, Jay, glad to hear all was ok. Keep us posted if your brakes were "faulty". Were your brakes OEM or brake pads from a Midas/Monroe,etc??

I guess you've never driven a 2nd or 3rd Gen 4Runner, because these brakes in the 4th Generation 4Runner are leaps and bounds above them by comparison. Rear disc's = heaven. Now your brake wear is dependent upon the how you drive if you feel your brakes are worn, it's time to have them checked.
<My little rant> SUV's are not sports cars or even cars, of course a RX-8 will stop before you can. It's a mass equation, you have more mass, you need more room to stop. You see it every day, some soccer mom in a 4-5 Ton SUV tailgating a small car. I just shake my head and think people just don't drive smart sometimes and hope for the best. (I'm not saying it was your fault, but it just goes with the topic I guess.) You had no chance to stop before he did unless you can see the future (kinda hard to do).

try disconnecting the battery for about 2 minutes. that should clear the light. if you had your seat belt on the light will come on due to the belt retractor being "shocked". if the light does not go out the retractor will probably have to be replaced.
as for the brakes i would have them looked at my '06 limited stops on a dime. and if you "slid" your ABS is not working.

God saved him as he could have went sideways, flipped the rig, killed the driver of the mazda and himself and anybody else that was close enough to be involved, thats how. We need to see God in the little and big things that happen everyday in our life, you only need to seek and as the Bible tells us you shall find, God Bless and glad to hear you are ok!

Yea I hear you pal! And I shook his hand because he was cool about it, and I was honestly scared lol. And I have the OEM brakes....not for long haha
I actually own a 3rd gen as well... its a 2000 4runner limited...rear has the drum brakes haha but they are horrible...untill i got them redone and they stopped BRILLIANTLY for a 10 year old pile!
God saved me because anything could of happened. I got out of it easily. I saved money, and bondo!
Thanks 4Runnertman that is very true. I am blessed. Not everyone is this lucky.
