ok boys ( and ladies) think the runner just gave it up.poured thick white smoke out the pipe and then tried to restart and locked down so now what is the best way to go here? rebuild or new block ?? thanks for eny input

Most shops around where im at will put in a rebuilt for 1200-1500.

IMO, if you were happy with the 3.0, stick with it. Rebuild the block you've got or order from somebody like Toyotacarpart.com. If you're looking to upgrade, google for the 5vze or Chevy 350 swaps, they're both real common and should give you an idea of what you're getting yourself into.

He has 1000 budget. Headers would take up almost 3/4 his budget.

Yeah, unfortunately with "only" $1000 to put into it, you're pretty much limited to a used engine of the same model--the adapters and other pieces alone would use up most of your budget on a swap (unless you're REALLY good in the salvage yards and come up with a whole drivetrain to swap--and can do it all yourself).

I got a 3.4 for my 96 for 1000$
But It had 115k and cracked off motor mounts.
If you have 1000$ then just stick that in the bank and save about 5000$ then you can afford to play with a motor swap. 4.3 or 5.7 Chevy or save 10,000$ and get into a 4bt diesel or 1jze

well it lookin like now its just a blown head gasket already have some one working on it.. but my question now is why would i put a chevy motor in a toyota? ?

Simple, really--to make your rig unique while using an engine design with a proven track record, adding to the reliability and power output (torque, baby!). I wouldn't want a Chevy truck, per se, but the classic small-block V8 and the off-shoot 4.3 V6 are rock-solid, with available modifications to make them as wild as you want. And if anything would go wrong, you can get parts ANYWHERE. No, I'm not suggesting you need to go this route--just answering your question about "why".

Buddy of mine put a mustang v8 in his, I'll have to ask him for specs but that thing gets up and goes. He got really lucky at the salvage yard and picked it up off wrecked stang for 500 (or so he says)
