I am not going to argue with you because your opinion appears set in stone but I think you need to grab a history book and read about the Nazi SS. I live in St. Louis so this topic hits extremely close to home and I agree that the police seem to be taking a shoot first ask questions later approach more often these days, but is that because of training or is it a reaction to an environment where children are raised to hate police. I don't think we will ever know the true answer but I think we can all agree that something needs to change.

On topic I prefer to keep my gun on me unless on long trips. In Missouri you are not required to notify the officer when pulled over unless asked. I have done it both ways as I use to get pulled over quite a bit and not notifying them seems to bring less hassle. In my town a suburb of St. Louis once you notify the officer of a fire arm they remove it from you and the vehicle by the policy of the department and then can not do anything until a second unit arrives. Once the stop is over they place the firearm in the trunk if possible and ask you not to retrieve it until they leave. I understand that this policy is to make them feel more safe but if them possessing a firearm made me feel unsafe I do not have the right to ask them to remove it. Sorry that rant went a little longer then intended.

I would actually prefer to have the Military on the streets in place of what passes for police, they have a top brass that isn't as crooked, they have a lot more levels of authority to be held accountable to.

Keep your hands on the wheel when approached, tell the LEO that you have a pistol in the car and a Concealed Carry permit. Hand over your license and CCW permit when asked, don't be a smartass, don't make any stupid moves and you'll be fine.

That is almost word for word what they taught to our CCW class. The instructor was a retired Detroit patrol officer. He also said to roll the windows down for better visibility, as long as the weather allows.

In Illinois, you are not required to inform the Officer unless you are directly asked by the Officer if you are carrying concealed. Which you choose is probably going to be situationally dependent.

Also, I would STRONGLY advise against what someone posted earlier about telling the Officer that "I have a gun in the car and I have a concealed carry permit". Once you say I have a gun the entire situation changes for you.

I would recommend saying "I do have a Concealed Carry License, and I do have one on" , then (with both hands on the wheel) do whatever the officer says and ask the Officer how they want you to proceed.

It is also a good idea to turn on any light you can if it is dark out. The better they can see you the more comfortable they are.

I'm not sure all states have the capability at this point, but if you're pulled over in a lot of places (FL and VA for sure) and have a CC permit it shows up as soon as they run your plates. So the officer already knows when he's walking up to the vehicle.

That is exactly what the instructor said - by the time they approach your vehicle, they will have run your plates and assuming you are driving a vehicle registered at the address you listed on your CCW application, or in your name, they already know you have a CCW permit.

At least that is how it works here in Arizona. I suspect it is like that in most states nowadays (if not all of them).
