Best price on OME?

Good job, Keith, and info, 89Fourrunner! Tnx for sharing.
I'd also like to install OME someday.

Keith, may I ask...
The OME torsion bar is designed to match the lift from leafs in the rear. Why did you have to used BJ spacers? For softer ride?

Did you have no issues with bolt on leaf spring pack clip hitting the fuel tank pinch-weld?

The OME bars will carry more weight (larger diameter) and better match the rear leafs in terms of ride/firmness, but the amount of lift they provide is solely a function of how they (or the stock bars) are indexed.

Lifting by indexing the torsion bars significantly reduces droop/down travel by putting the upper A-arm on the bumpstops (the droop bumpstops). Accordingly, using the ball joint spacer for the lift and backing off of the torsion bar adjustment allows you to return the upper arm to its midway point in its arc (more horizontal) and regain suspension down-travel (and is arguably less wear/stress on upper ball joint.)

Didn't know the leaf spring clip bolt had a clearance issue - will check that and turn it around if it looks like an issue - thanks for the heads up on that!

BTW, ride quality is vastly improved now over cranked stock bars and Zuk coils - although a lot of that may have to do with the fact that the Bilsteins weren't long enough for the amount it was lifted, and the lack of downtravel up front.

I probably could have bought just factory replacement rear leafs and the ball joint spacers and improved things, but I'm a big fan of the OME setup that we put on our 3rd gen 8 years ago and appreciate a firmer, well damped setup.

- And there are ZERO squeaks from the suspension now!

Just checked this today, and YES, that IS going to be an issue! (thanks for alerting me)

It looks like I'm going to need to turn the bolt around AND hammer the pinchweld vertical to clear and (more importantly) avoid catching the bolt head on its way down.

Interestingly, it hasn't flexed enough to catch the tank since the install, but the pinch weld is already bent (I assume from the stock leafs?) in that spot...

sort of an update: - Julia's '87 was fantastic in the mountains this week (vacation at old family cabins in the Toe River Valley)

Overall, I think the OME kit is too tall, and unnecessarily stiff - but it handles well on NC80 (and that's saying something) and it seems to be just fine with a load, comfort-wise, IMO.

I had OME on the rear of my pickup and I have to agree, those things are wayy stiff and tall. I ended up using them for a RUF swap and they work great for that application.
