Best Street Tire Choices for 06 Limited

$236 Got my numbers mixed up:

Has anyone tried out the Toyo Open Country H/T? This is what our tire guy here in town has been putting alot of on here lately. He said he highly recommend them (known the guy for a long time, he isn't saying just for a sales gimmick). Which he can't get just about any tire i want though. I was just wondering if anyone here has every had any experience with them. Also he said they would run $165 per tire for 265/60/18
 
um........ on our Limited size, tire choice is pretty limited. i am having a hard time to find some decent A/T, i was looking at 265/65/18 so the 4R is going to be raised for about 1/2 or so, and seems a few manufactures make them now. Revo stopped making 18", and my only choice left to BFG A/T KO......

and those BFG isn't any cheaper than X-terrain, $248 each........

Have you looked at the Toyo Open Country A/T they make them in the 265/60/18, my father in law has them on his toyota pickup and they are quite and do pretty good in the mud. He uses the truck mainly on the farm so it see's the mud quite often. When my General Grabber AT2 wears out on my 97 Z71 i'm going to go with the Toyo A/T.

Toyo seems to be pretty good tires i reckon, thats why i'm kinda condisdering them for my wifes 4runner. 60,000 mile warranty

Yeah I tried them and HATED them. Very rough riding and not very quiet. I had em for three days and replaced them with the Cross Contact LX on my 06 Runner.

My new Urban has the Cross Terrains (the dealer swapped out the crappy Bridgestones for me). No doubt, they are very nice tires - quiet, comfortable, good wet traction. But if I were in the market to replace these tires, I would go with the Grabber HTS or the Cross Contact LX. There is no way I would pay $250 per tire for the Michelins when I could get either of the other two for half the price. If money were no object, sure, the Cross Terrains are great. But if money is important, you'll get a much better value with the other two.

i havent', but i will. mainly my stock x-terrain only has 17k miles on them, so practically new. and since i will do more off road in the future without lifting the 4R. i will look into 265/65 instead of 265/60.

i am looking into some tires can do well while on-road when my wife drives it on the weekdays (something comfort and quiet) and does rug while i take it out off-road during weekends. that way i can avoid spending money on an extra set of 17" and tires which are strictly for off road only.

So they where rough riding? I def don't want that, especially since it is my wifes ride and we have a baby on the way. Dang i'm so confused. I have general's on my truck and the more miles i put on them the louder they get. But i do have the at2 so that might be why.

Did you really like the Cross Contact LX on your 06 4runner?
 
Yeah, I really liked the Cross Contact. I posted about them when I got them about a year and a half ago and I and compared them to other tires I've had (Cross Terrains, Fortera Silent Armors) but hell I can't find my posts.

They were great for my needs - very quiet and excellent in rain, and a comfortable ride. Shoot, I got em for a hundred bucks a tire back then, I was out the door at like $500. I had 40,000 miles on them when I traded in my 06 and still had half the tread left.

Put it this way - when I need new tires in 18 months, unless I'm swimming in money, I will in all likelihood put the Cross Contacts on my 08.

I called another tire shop that we use in a nearby town and they priced me the Cooper H/T Plus for $539 mounted and balanced out the door. This was the tire they reccommended. The lady that answers the phone says that she really likes her, (she has them on her Caddilac Escalade) so right now i'm kinda leaning toward them. Has anyone ever used these or know of someone that has? Also they have the 60k warranty also.
 
I put Goodyear Fortera Triple Treads on my 04 SR5 4WD back in Septemeber. So far I am very happy with them.

Good handling on dry roads and quiet.

I took them off road over sand on Cape Cod a few times and they did well.

Just did a 400 mile ski trip in a snowstorm in New England and they did great. Very stable on a messy highway. Had to drive up a 30 degree slope to get to the ski resort that was covered in snow and ice. No problem at all with the 4WD. They have the Winter Rated emblem on them so they are tested for snow/ice driving.

They seem to be holding up wear wise also. Have put about 8K on them and done one rotation. I also like the look of them. Aggressive tread pattern and the sidewalls still shine like new.

Price wise I got all 4 installed for 900 at Town Fair Tire so $225 per tire. That includes all installation costs and free lifetime rotation, road hazard, etc. I had the Michelin Crossterrain previously and was happy with them as well, but if I had to choose I would go with the Triple Treads.
 
Right now i just can't afford to put a set of $900 tires on. I'm thinking pretty seriously bout putting the Cooper Discoverer h/t plus on there.
