best way to remove sheared CV axle shaft from diff...

drivers...could i remove both and punch the broken one through from the opposite side?

Driver side is tough. If it was the passenger, you could unbolt the diff extension but the drivers side. Do what the mechanic did or remove the whole diff and break down.
I would remove the diff assembly and break down, clean and put back together.

ive never broken down a front diff before, anything i need to look out for?
ive dont lockers, and broken down a rear diff on ours . . . if that helps at all

Its easy. Pull the diff out. Take off the add tube and then you will the stub shaft on the passenger side. That pops out like a cv so a couple screwdrivers and you can get it out. then get a long punch and sick it through the diff from the passenger side and pop that busted shaft out.
If you follow this you shouldn't have to split the front case apart. Its a little tricky to get to the busted piece around the carrier cross pin but it can be done ( long skinny punch or screwdriver). We did this to remove the busted stub shaft on my buddies 4runner a couple weeks ago. You just have it broken on the other side.
Good luck. Honestly the hardest thing is removing the font diff. And you will need an E torx socket to remove the add tube. its an E torx 12 or 14 i can't remember

Or in the case of my friend the cv was fine but it snapped the add stub shaft off in the carrier. Seriously its not that big of a deal to get out. Just grab a six pack and get to it. may want to have a friend help you bench press the diff out. Or try it with a jack. I have had better luck just lifting it up and pulling it out.
