Best wheel/brake dust cleaner??

Looking for a good cleaner for brake dust/grime on alloy wheels. Something that doesn't require a psi washer. what do you guys use?

Anything that isnt the most generic brand possible haha. Ive used something called Break Kleen and it worked well. Got it at walmart. But thats mainly used for cleaning the brakes not the alloy wheels. assuming you have aluminum wheels and were not talking about the actual brakes go to vatozone and pick up anything that says aluminum wheel cleaner, its hard to go wrong. most require a spray and some scrubbing followed by a quick rinse.

Vatozone....hilarious! by far the funniest thing ive heard today. Cant believe Ive never heard that one

whatever you use, follow it with a coat of sealant wax (6 mths durability) or carnuba wax (2 mths) and it will keep the gunk off your wheels and make them look nice while you're at it.

I just use any All-Purpose Cleaner.

Rinse wheel, All-Purpose Cleaner, brush, rinse, brush again, rinse off, dry the wheels & Spray Wax.

I haven't did a side by side comparison with and without the Spray Wax...but I use the Spray Wax, because I think it helps repel the brake dust.

Good idea on the spray wax guys, the wife is either hard on one pedal or the other, I swear its the only was she knows how to drive, her wheels get CAKED in brake dust, and guess who gets the pleasure of cleaning them grrr

on a side note, I think Kleen wheel makes a dust shield that should work for our trucks

I was pretty neglectful about cleaning my truck until recently. No matter how hard I scrub or what wheel cleaner I use, there are areas that appear to be permanently marked with brake dust. Any suggestions beyond scrubbing and wheel cleaners?

Simple Green is the ONLY thing I will ever use again for brake dust! Spray it on, hit it with a soft brush and it just falls off.
Works great for the white letters on tires too!

I never had any luck with simple green
then discovered if I let it sit on the item for 5 minutes or so that it works pretty good

I have used a lot of products over the years and nothing touches Sonax full effects wheel cleaner. We have a bunch of German cars that blacken the wheels in a couple hundred miles and this stuff eats the brake dust.
Go to www.detailersdomain.com and it's under the Sonax pruducts.
Simple green ate the clearcoat on a set of my wheel, I wouldn't use it or at least not at full strength.

Armorall also has a product you spray on your wheels after they are cleaned and dry that repels brake dust and dirt beautifully, like $7 for the can and you can go months without much build up. I use them on some expensive wheels with no issues, good products for you off roaders!

Simple Green WILL NOT "eat" anything but dirt... the stuff is biodegradable with no chemicals...maybe you're thinking of something else?

For tough but safe cleaning on any/all rims, I like to use P21S Wheel Cleaner Gel:
P21S Wheel Cleaner-*Gel 500ml. (16.9 oz.)

I put three coats of Zainos CS on my new wheels. The brake dust rinses off with water now.

I use LA's totally awesome. Buy it at dollar tree and wet wheel (optional) spray on scrub and rinse. Done. Looks great every time.
