Thai, I did a bit more reading on the web adn one of the big reasons they have quoted never occurred to me......The moisture inside of the tires from humidity and pressure changes as well as the air compressors to inflate and maintain the tires at proper pressure, ends up rotting the tires out from the inside.

As I posted in this thread ( http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30133 ) a store manager at a local tire chain here in New England has reported that with some of the new TPMS units in the valve stems there are issues with this moisture building up over time and corroding the sensors and valves.

Not sure if he is feeding me a crock of sh!t but it does seem to be somewhat logical. Supposedly, nitrogen in the tires (I have heard A LOT of good stuff about this) alleviates this issue by not using the moisture in the air compressor.

I am with you on the French thing...this was partly why i went with Firestone Destination M/T on my SUV...but damn it, Michelin and BFG make such high quality tires!:(

Our '07 Highlander had Michelins on it too. Not a bad tire. Can't recall what model of tire - but we traded that one in for my 4Runner anyway so it does not matter.

I had some Michelin LTX ATs on my '98 GMC Sierra Pick Up and those were good tires overall too. Much better than the BFG Long Trails that came with it. I got 20,000 miles out of them before they really began to suck ass. Garbage tire.

Part of the reason we did not buy a Nissan was that almost half of Nissan is owned by Renault (a French company). About 10% of the actual comapny of Renault is directly owned by the French Government. SInce I don't care for the Frogs, and I loathe Socialism I just could not bring myself to buy an XTerra.

That is OK, I have my 4Runner and I know that is what I wanted anyway.

Now I just need to get tires for her. Likely that I will go with the Yokohama Geolander AT-S tires.
 
Benk , I'm in Meno Falls / Sussex area . We got to talk .

Best local place for BFG AT is Mark Reinderle tire . Either 35th and beecher area or Hwy 60 in Neosho. They usually have the lowest prices locally , but the know they stuff and know BFG inside and out.

I hope to have new tires by winter snow falls .

I bought many , many sets there and thats the BFG store to go to.

I think we need a thread about companies that are owned by the French that we should AVOID. Since I am not familiar with which companies are French having some info on those to avoid would be good :)

Sorry to say it but I run nothing but BFG All Terrain on my truck. Not a bad on road ride, very strong, and good traction in the dirt and snow.

It's my one French weakness.....:bash:

As for other French companies.....stay away from Mepps fishing lures and the store Target....:D
 
I have had them on previous vehicles and loved them.

There is a reason they sell like hotcakes out here in the mountains on 4x4 vehicles......

I love them. Great in the snow, Seem to stick better in rain compared to the dunlop cross terrains I had on the 4runner which I wasn't expecting. They also held up great to the sharp marble rocks on Crystal City and Schofield Pass, some trails up tiger road near Breckenridge, and all over other various National Forests in the state.
 
Most likely , I need to get my lift on too. I've been so fricken busy I have not had much time.
 
The BFG's are decent on the highway, OK in the mud, but they are strong when you need them if you are not a serious mud type. I have run them on my work trucks that are run about 75% highway to 25% offroad. As long as you do not have to dig real deep into the mud for traction, they are alright.If you are in this category, especially in the winter use them, you will love them. I really like them during the winter months, they have great traction without having to change out tires/rims for the seasons. This is why I put them on my 03 4Runner. If you need a mud or aggressive tire, check out the Toyo MT's, they balance very well, when you need them, they are strong, and they are not very loud compared to the Wrangler MTS.

Other than the French being socialists..........

Many people (myself included) find the French to be an arrogant culture of people with no endearing social graces who have no thanks for the hundreds of thousands of citizens of other nations that died to free it from oppression within the last century, financed its own war for colonialist rule (in Viet Nam), and generally just don't like them.


I do not care for the French due to their lack of support for our own county's defensive measures. During the bombing of Libya after several U.S. servicemen were blown up in Qaddafi's attacks the French refused to allow U.S. aircraft to fly over their country during the raids.

Their general air of superiority help hinder Europe's actions in the slaughter of..........genocide.... that was occuring in Bosnia.

Their general lack of support in Afghanistan in prosecuting aggressors to freedom.


If there is any opportunity for me to NOT buy a French product then I will. My own personal way of standing up for my principals. Like it or not, I try my best to not compromise on them.
 
Dont forget the infamous Maginot Line !! The brain child of Andree Maginot. A series of concrete defensive structures to stop a german attack on the borders with Germany and Italy. The germans simply flanked them :p
