BFG All-Terrain T/A KO2 went on sale today

Such proof doesn't exist (nor could it exist - too many variables and too many subjective definitions of what constitutes "superior.")

Hey, you can buy recap tires cheap, too. And there are lots of folks on the intertubes who will swear up and down that they've never had a problem with their recaps.

It may be that the only reason you see so many people running BFG's out here in the West (and there are a LOT of them) is because we're all suffering some mass delusion.

Or it could be because when people run a different tire they have problems. Cheap tires are cheap for a reason.

You were the one that said the BFG was superior, not me lol. I was just refuting your claim. I have run several sets of "cheap" tires and several sets of "expensive" tires like the BFG and Michelins. After buying over 30 sets of tires though you learn price does not equate to quality.

My friend, if in fact you could PROVE they are indeed superior then I would agree. Unfortunately, your own meager experiences do not qualify as proof. Now, if you could find 1,000 people or so that had the same experience as you then you would have a compelling case. Price is never a good indicator of quality. Price is purely a function of supply and demand. Does BFG use superior or different materials in their tires? No. Do they have more sipes or better compounds? You can't answer that because you, nor I, have any idea other than the "look" of the tire and the gimmicky advertising BFG spends millions on. Cooper and several other brands are good tires and they don't have to recoup the advertising budget BFG does. This new tire might be the greatest tire ever. I do know their old tire was good for some applications and terrible in others. The internet is full of stories about that.
So, when you offer me proof that BFG is a superior tire then I will be happy to pay $50-75 more per tire. Until then, I will just run the good cheap tires.

I had a sidewall puncture on a Pro Comp X-terrain I had and have helped change 3 other tires off road of various other brands over the years. They have all been sidewall failures from rocks putting a hole in the sidewall (one had a stick puncture in sidewall). Buying a BFG all terrain is like me buying my new 4runner, I stick with what I know works. I do not care about the snowflake, mud or wet performance because I have no snow, mud and little rain here in the desert even though my old bfg worked fine in the little rain I was in. For all the money we waste on gas and mods the higher price should not be a factor. If money is that tight we should drive a Prius.

BFGs routinely get bashed on the internet (T4R.org included), but they have worked for me in the kind of conditions i usually encounter, so I have been pleased with them. 99.9% of my 4Runner miles are on pavement (sigh...) and they work fine there. They are quiet and wear evenly and at a reasonable rate. Most of my offroading in Texas, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado is in dry conditions and not in winter. Just like any other mod, what works for one may not be best for someone else.

Your comment about "sticking with what works" made me chuckle as many of your posts back in the day totally derided the 5th generation 4Runner with all of the perceived faults you thought it had. Then you bought one lol. Again, this new BFG tire might be the greatest thing since sliced bread and if so I will be sure to run a set. Until then though nobody knows how they are or will be. Superior lol. #smh

The fact that the KO2 can survive the Baja 1000 then drive you to liquor store to pick up a 6 pack speaks volumes.

Good catch on the severe weather symbol. I'm also in CO and a reliable tire in a mountain snow storm is worth its weight in gold. I'm 99.9% sure the KO2 will be my next tire. Hopefully they'll have some specials going once they're released.

I am guilty of bashing the 5th gen back in the day. When push came to shove and I needed a new vehicle the 4runner was the only choice. I am either getting used to the engine in the 14 or it is running better but this 4runner is really growing on me. I am not a tire salesman and really do not care what tires other people use. I am just stating my opinion of what works for me. If I lived in a different part of the country there may be better choices. I am not going to use my new tires 100% of the time. They will only be used in off road season in Arizona. The rest of the year I am going to run the stock 20's. On long summer road trips on strictly pavement I like the quiet, smooth lower rolling resistant stock tires. Off road in rocks really beat up the finish on rims so I can bash my off road tires and wheels am keep my 20's in new condition. I just bought a set of take off 2012 SR5 rims with slight tire machine damage from my Toyota dealer for $200 plus $15 tax so I do not care if they get damaged. I would buy the old KO BFG all terrain but if one get damaged a year from now it would probably not be possible to buy just one tire. They will be out of production.

BFG'S have more wins in Baja than any other tire brand. I actually run them year round in the Arizona deserts and have never had any failures in 20 years of different 4X4's. I can't say the same about Duratracs. It has been a difficult tire to balance even after Discount have replaced 2 and I had a complete belt come apart on one of them. I would rather spend a few bucks more for my tires than to be stranded in the desert when it is 110 degrees.

just on this site there are MANY people that prefer the BFG KO.

you will find a lot of people that don't like it, and bad reviews simply due to the sheer volume of tires sold. how do these bad reviews stack up against the tires sold? do you have that information?

the fact that it no longer carries the snowflake, is that because the standards were changed? or were the tires changed? if it was the standards, then the tire will still perform well. I love mine, I haven't found a tire that works as well as it does in every situation, AND gives excellent mileage, and road manners. it truly is a great all around tire.

I'm on my third set. These things are awesome in the snow, in upstate ny, and not that loud on the highway. I got 75k miles out of my first set and had 50k on the second set with still plenty of meat left when I sold my pickup. Sure they are more money but worth it in the long run in my opinion. They may not look as aggressive as other tires out there, but they preform just as well. I'm sure these new tires will be the same, it's pretty much the same same tread with a different sidewall.

That was my experience too nadalem, and the original KO was only just acceptable on soft sand. I'm not sure the update will be any better in mud, because it still features tread blocks at a 45 degree angle to the tire rotation. Hopefully the serious side biters the new design has will help there. The natural tendency is for tread blocks square to the rotation to clear mud more easily, and tread on an angle away from the spin direction seems to retain packed mud.

In my opinion the KO is a tremendous tire for dryer climates, and works extremely well on things like rocky trails and tracks. I don't drive in snow, but those who do also rave about it's performance in the white stuff. However for mud that clings and soft sand like that in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, that's a different matter.

I traded the stock tires for Nitto Terra Grapplers a few months ago. Since that time I've been in Mainland Mexico extensively, traversing very soft wet sand on the beach and even charged right up some dunes to avoid wave surges. We also took the wrong trail and ended up in some seriously deep mud tracks in the middle of nowhere.

Actually we spent a lot of time in the mud due to a series of tropical storms that dumped a ton of water. The overall performance of the Nittos was excellent. Especially in the mud for such a street friendly tread. Performance on the sand was even better and I never had to air down, even with the standard size 265 / 70 / 17's.

What size are you getting? On the BFG site the only size available in 17" November is 275/70/17 load range E. The 265/70/17 both C and E range will not be available till March 2015. Tire rack only shows preorder for the 275 size also.

Well pooh! Looking to replace the C-Load LT265/70R17 AT KO's I'm running now. E rated is just a MPG waste in my case (I wish they made a C-Load LT275/70R17!).

I guess I will be sticking with current generation KO's or possibly look into some Duratracs (would be my first departure from BFG AT's in 20 years!).
