You guys remind me of myself

as a kid just trying really hard to tear up a pair of old sneakers to get a new pair of Keds.
 
I actually got her to spin the rears about 10 revolutions I would say, i backed up to a wet concrete curb and gave it some gas!

It didnt make any smoke though....:mad:
 
Go look at them in person

Your buying your truck new shoes,

Go try them on, make sure they fit for you, etc..

They both have there positives, BFG: tougher sidewalls better offroad and more aggressive look etc..

Revo: Quieter, shorter life, look "normal", better in corners, etc...

You should make the decision you will be happy with, not anyone else.

Good luck but I say look at them in person, it will make a big difference on your perceptions of them.

Well I could not stand it any longer!! I just got back from costco, and I just bought 4 265/70/17 Revos. However I got the P rated ones, I could not wait another day!!

$128 A piece after the $60 rebate!

I will be mounting them myself tomorrow after work. It makes me sick to see them in the cargo area of the 4 Runner and not on the wheels !


EFFFING Costco would not mount them!!

Trust me man its like night and day with the REVO compare to the Dunlop! You will be asking yourself why didn't I get these tire sooner!:D
 
I am looking at 4th Gen 4Runners right now (most of which have crap or bald tires) and I am also deciding between these two tires.

I don't mind paying extra for the BFGs. I have read reviews of many sets of REVOs going near bald at the 20-30k mile range. I put about 18k miles a year on a vehicle so I don't want to buy new tires each year.

I saw the BFG TA/KOs on Tire Rack in the 265/70R-17 size with a loading rating of E (10 ply side wall).

My questions are:

1) Is this a heavy ass tire, which is unnecessary since I don't haul much around other than myself and the occasional tow?

2) will this tire kill my fuel mileage?

3) Will it be noisy and make my ride rough?

I am coming from an '07 Jeep Wrangler so a less-than-smooth ride would not be unusual to me. And I do plan on doing some offroading with my dad and his LR D-90.

Another choice is the Nitto Terragrappler. I've used the BFG before and liked it but it is heavier, noisey, and you it won't get the best gas milage of the 3 (Revo, Nitto, BFG). I had a set of BFG's go 30k and had to replace them. I currently am running the Nitto's and they will most likely see 55-60k. Not to mention they run about $150/ tire. If you're doing some towing and little 4 wheeling the Nittos will suit you fine (I've done towing with a boat locally/14hr drive and a lot of 4 wheeling in Colorado-mud and snow). If you're looking for an off road tire I would go with the BFG's. Hope that helps.
 
Thanks guys. I am new to this forum and you all seem to be incredibly helpful!

Two questions:

First, what load rating would you recommend in the Nittos on stock 17s. I'm single and usually only have one to two people and I only occasionally tow. I will drive offroad perhaps once a month. (eventually I would like to add a Shrockworks bumper and lift, but I supposed I'd also need bigger/new tires by then)?

Second, and not to divert too much from the topic, but does anyone know how much tire tread is acceptable for a vehicle to be a Toyota CPO (certified pre-owned)?

I have the P rated Nittos and have not had a single problem off-road or towing a jet ski. I run the 265/70-17 on my Runner with a SAW / OME lift and enjoy the combination.

I'm no help on your second question.

I'm running 18" rims on an 07 V8 LTD. I've posted around but haven't been able to find anyone running BFG's 265/65/R18 on this rig. 265/60/R18 is standard.

I want to know if I can mount this tire without any mods and if it will fit in the spare location.

Anyone try this?

Don't go over a D load rating on any tire for a 4Runner. E is for large heavy trucks that tow like the new Tundra.

I'm very happy with my Nittos and my next set will be Nittos too and they now also have a 50k treadwear warranty.

I agree with Ron , except I might have dropped it to a "C" rated . E= way to heavy , yes they will fit and you can run them if you don't mind the trade off and wasting the money.
