BFGoodrich T/A KO tires on a stock rig, advice needed

If you don't mind me asking, what store and how much did you end up getting them for. I am going to get the Duras in the coming weeks, and am pricing them out different places. I found 4 shipped 265s in C for $759 and am going to see if Discount will price match.

I ended up purchasing a set of GY DuraTracs at America's/Discount Tires. The sales guy was going to price match my tirerack quote but then later told me that they only price match online vendors "to your door" so they calculated the shipping costs from tirerack as part of the match. Kind of pissed me off, so I didn't get much of a discount. The total was around $890 but that total was after all the mounting, balancing, waste tire disposal, and the crappy California sales tax and environmental fees. I think it was around an extra 70 bucks in expense. The installation came with lifetime balancing, rotation, etc etc. But then there is the $60 visa debit card rebate that I will be receiving from GY, wish they would just give me cash!

I drove the duratracs home and I LOVE THEM! Not just the looks but the way they perform. I turned off the radio and rolled down the windows, barely any road noise (I was expecting more since they were brand spankin new) or vibration and I'm comparing my experience after driving my bald costco tires for some time. I'm pretty impressed so far. I'll share some pics in a bit.

What part of the bay are you from? They have a local warehouse? Hmm, might have to remember this for my next set of tires.

I'm in the east bay. I was expecting to wait 3-4 days as the tires are special order in my area but my sales guy called their local warehouse and had someone drive a set of 4 duratracs in about 4 hours direct to the store.

When I got the call that they arrived I snapped this pic:

It may look like a normal set of tires in the pic but when I saw them in person I had drool coming out of my mouth :wow2: and the tires were glowing with the words "buy me".

Just fyi, and you probably already know this, but it's not just tirerack, you can get the rebate (its a $60 visa debit card) with most goodyear retail stores or qualifying vendors. Rebate Link

I'm betting BFG is lighter and prob affects MPG less than duratrac, but that's purely speculation. Both rock in snow, Duratrac will be better in mud. BFG will be better on the street. Hard call to make. Both killer tires.

Lol. While you meant well....your post is pretty much just wrong on all fronts. Try again sometime though, you get an A for effort.

-BFG's last longer on the street, but aren't as responsive. Call it equal on road.



OP, the Duratracs' looks sweet. My sister has them on her rig, and it with 1.5" spacers, and a mild lift it looks pretty BA.

Just some info for all...treadepot.com has them with the rebate as well. 265s in C load for Duras shipped to my door was $759 after instant rebate. This is the price in taking to Discount...they should honor it, we'll see.

They look nice. Don't forget to drop the spare and check the condition of the tire and rim. I do that every 2 or 3 tire rotations and it usually needs a few pounds of air in it. The spare is probably smaller than your new tires also. If you have old tires that still have life on them, keep them and you can probably get $100 for the set and save the tire disposal fee. Just a thought...

We have a nasty storm on the way so I'll be testing the performance of these duratracs on the wet paved road and post my experience.

I'm pretty stoked that I got them before the wet weather. When it rains here it usually means it's snowing in Lake Tahoe. That means more reason to go take my family there for a visit! I already have the sleds out of the storage all dusted off and ready to go!

As soon as the weather clears, sun comes out, and I finally get my fender flares professionally painted, I'll snap a pic of my rig in all it's glory!

Thanks man! I'm at work trying to earn $ right now (to refill my pocket book after paying for these tires) and all I can think about right now is jumping in my rig and testing the new tires out in snow.

The only con I have at the moment is on my way to the office I rubbed my pants on one of my tires. :dammit: America's tires needs to go a little easy on the tire dressing. The extra dressing are all over my bumpers. More reason to get my flares installed asap.

This is how I view BFGs and yes the BFGs last longer but they wear hard thus losing a bit of their dry grip and in the rain they break traction easier than the Duratracs too especially in corners. I've driven on a few sets of BFGs on a couple of mid '90s Toy pickups and a 3rd gen and I'll never go with BFGs again.
So far so great upon completion of my Duratrac's 3rd winter behind them and no issues whatsover.

I don't want to be negative, but I want share my Goodyear experience - in the hopes it might help you. I have bought tires from Discount Tire and they are pretty good about returning tires in 30 days after you buy them.

About 2007 I had a set of Goodyear's on my truck, not the Duratrac though. I had a problem with unusual wear, flat spots actually - it looked like someone took a flat sander and sanded a flat spot on the tires in several places. In addition to this, they wore out VERY fast - while under warranty. The place I bought them ("All Tire" in Commerce, Michigan, 248-363-1541 All Tire Service Center, Inc. Commerce Michigan - Auto Repair) Tom told me he agreed they wore out prematurely, but that he cannot get Goodyear to stand behind them, that it is common with Goodyear. Hmm.... I know I cold have sued, but the price in question was too little for my time...

2011, I was tire shopping in Colorado (where I live now) and I saw a nice set of Goodyear tires in Wallmart with a aggressive tread pattern. I asked the manager of that department what the warranty was on them. He told me "Goodyear will not stand behind any "LT" (Light Truck) tire anymore because they feel people are buying them with the lower load rating and towing a boat or whatever and then asking for a replacement of the tires when they wear out or fail prematurely. To be honest, he also told me he expected this is a growing trend among tire manufacturers.

Please understand I do not "hate" Goodyear, I am just sharing Intel (Info for you civilians) in an attempt to protect my T4R brothers out there - like you all do for me.

Thanks man! I think it was the combination of recos from duratrac owners on this thread sharing their positive experience and the fact that they were much cheaper than the BFG KOs that are in aspect 70 load D -I actually had my cash out ready to hand over to buy the 70's- till the sales guy pulled up the retail price on them. It was just way more expensive then the 75 load E that someone else on this thread mentioned.

So I'm going to just roll the dice that these duratrac tires will do me well moving forward and spend my GY $60 visa debit card rebate on a nice dinner with my wife. I just drove the duratracs back home from a long days work in some crazy nasty wet weather and I swear they grip the pavement only god knows how...the handling on these are AMAZING, I still can't believe A/T tires can perform this well on pavement!

I'm headed up to Lake Tahoe this Friday with the family and will try these out in the snow. I have this feeling I'm gonna have some good times in the snow with my T4R!

I forgot to mention that the DuraTracs gave me some decent MPG on my way home!!! :driving:

PSI at 35 from the tire shop, smooth ride and I was averaging 19-22 (30% city / 70% hwy) on the scangauge:
