Bicycle racks?

I have the Hold-Up2 from Yakima as well. (also have the +2 extension). I definitely like it and it holds bikes well. It is a bit heavy, but it's solid. I also got a ridiculous deal. Had I not had the same opportunity I would have gotten the 1UP. But I don't think you can get a 4bike option. Didn't look too hard at the time

You can do four bikes with the 1Up. I have the double base rack with two add-on trays, someone else had a setup with the single base and three add-ons, which I didn't know was supported or I would have gone that route. The single tray is conveniently minimal and would serve my needs the majority of the time. Adding the trays just takes a few seconds each.

Bike Rack -

I picked up a used hitch mounted bike rack (holds 2 bikes) - Paid $15.00 - It's very heavy duty and works great!!!

I bought a new, in the box, hang off of the back, rack at a thrift store in San Diego for $5 about 15 years ago, and I still use it. It hooks on the tailgate and sits on the window ledge, so it is secure. I still have my hitch if I want to put on the cargo carrier, which I do when I'm traveling. I've replaced the rubber feet a few times, but it works fine. Here I'm heading to Whistler via Seattle from Park City Utah.

I've always gone with hitch racks because a bunch of people I know have driven roof racks into their own garages! One guy did it twice!

I have a Yakima Holdup 2. It is heavy, as stated above, but it works!

Used to have a Thule, but I like my Yakima a tiny bit better. It seems to hold the bikes in place more securely, and the edges fold up a bit for a smaller storage footprint.

I know a few people who put the garage door remote on the bike for that reason. I also know one who did that and then did the same type of damage by not seeing a low hanging tree limb in his driveway.

If you're using an iPhone, it's just dumb.

You have to rotate the pic, then save it. Then close it. Then open it and rotate it back, save it, then upload it.

My galaxy never did this, so I'm assuming it is an iPhone.

I think the usual comments about Yakima Holdup 2 is its weight. But I think it's not a big problem especially if it does the work and holds the bike securely.

Might be a Yakima setup for sale! I totally agree with the single being perfect most of the time, ugh. If only I had known!

I, also, use a hitch mounted Thule rack.... It's well made, easy to use and is a much better solution, IMHO, than ANY roof rack.

I have used a roof rack for a few years and would definitely advised against it. I'm fairly tall it is still a pain to get bikes on and off, especially with heavier MTBs and tight parking lots.

But possibly the biggest annoyance is that, even without a bike, the additional height of the rack itself can put you over the height limit for some parking garages!

I have a thule t2

but if im traveling by myself i usually carry the bike in the cargo area using a 15mm fork mount bolted to a piece of plywood. I always lock the bikes up regardless. I dont likethe idea of being rear-ended and have the rack, bike and the rear of the truck whacked by some wanker who isnt paying attention...

I'll chime in with another vote for the 1up racks, super cool. I got one since I just needed a single and didn't want the unused rack up in the way. The Kuat rack is nice in that it also has a work stand built in for those on site repairs.

Made it for my 2001 with a piece of 2x12, couple of fork mounts and some plastic sheeting for carpets that had "hooks" in plastic to hold the board in one place on the 4Runnner. Have not tried it yet on my 2016 but hope everything fits.

I built up a gravel bike that allows me to forget driving and ride from home. I just use transit to the trailhead or as a bridge to get to the start point and finish the ride in my driveway usually after a stop at the local pub....:beer:

I also have the Kuat NV. It's been a great bike rack for us and should be for the price. I don't expect it to ever have an issue. :cheers:
