Big Bear to Las Vegas offroad adventure 2016?

I'm of the opinion that as long as it's not asphalt it should count. I seem to remember the American version of Top Gear doing a similar challenge. I think we could do it. There's plenty of fire roads we could link up to make the trip.

I spent some time today looking at some trails on google earth. It make the most sense to depart down the south-east portion of big bear mountain. There doesn't seem to be any maps from the OP's link. Im not very familiar with this area but, Im sure someone with knowledge of the area can chime in. I did find a link to a similar expedition from vegas, ending in johnson valley with a few gps waypoints.

I was looking for a way to stay completely off road from big bear to johnson valley, but i was unable to find any. Although most roads out there are dirt...which i guess I could consider off road.

Easy to do actually. Drop out of Big Bear on 2N02 and then take Rattlesnake Canyon. That puts you practically across the street from Johnson Valley OHV.

From there you can cut through to across the 15 continuing on through the Mojave Wilderness but I would just make sure you steer clear of the base. Otherwise the HMMWVs might chase after you or worse yet you run over something that hasn't gone boom yet.

I live out in the nothingness known as 29 Palms btw. Glad to hear someone lives in the area that likes 4runners besides [MENTION=102641]BattleWagonActual[/MENTION]

Depending on time frame I might be interested however you want to do it sooner than later unless the goal is to lose weight. Gonna start getting hot out here.

Did a little more looking and there's an ord mountain trail that passes through Johnson valley and takes you up to a point where you can connect into the labv (LA to Barstow to vegas) dual sport trail. I looked through the pics and there were some 4x4 being used as chase vehicles so the trail is wide enough for us.

Fair game for the most part headed that away. Just patches of no fly zones .

Death Valley Run Nov 20-23

If any of you interested I just got done doing a 3 Day Mojave Trail Run we ran it from east to west starting in Laughlin on the Colorado River and drove the entire Mojave ending in Barstow.
We already have are next run set in stone including trails,camp destinations,time frames,site seeing locations such as Barker Ranch (Charles Manson Ranch hideout where he was caught) and the best possible photo opportunities for scenic backdrops, trails from easy to hard and all have exit points if you choose to go around it and adventure around til the group is done and rally out again.
So all of the hard part is done for you and dont even have to think, just drive and have fun.

But this time its a 3 Day Death Valley Nov 20-23
This is the real deal My buddy Craig (N2Deep) over on TundraTalk.net is running it and heading it all the detailed info is there he even posted last week he was thinking of opening it up for 4Runners here on T4R to roll along and after us he's opening it up the the Raptor Crew just to fill spots since your allowed up to 20 vehicles ...if we don't bring a large representation to the run. Alot of you say how you wanna do these kind of runs and we talk about it get all pumped up and it just stops there, well heres a great opportunity for one hell of a trip. It's not just talk now.

Keep in mind as the title of this thread states, this is planed for 2016. November would be a good time next year. No snow on the mountains, and cooler in the desert. With El Niño this year the desert can be very dangerous with flash floods. Plan on this being a 2 day trip on the way there.

I generally plan a trek after dinner and am out on the trail the next morning!
