Bike Mount Options?

I am looking for bike mount ideas (custom or off-the-shelf) for an overlanding trip. Since there are so many mountain bikers on here, I'm sure someone else has tried to combine their remote wheeling trips with some remote mountain biking. So my question is this: how can I carry a mountain bike (or two) in the runner without taking too much of my space for gear and supplies?

I've seen the hard axle mounts that hold the bikes in the trunk, but I'm wondering specifically how people execute them. How do you drill/mount in the trunk of the runner? How do you stabilize the bike from left/right sway when the vehicle is rocking on rough trails?

Have you tried searching? There are lots of threads on bike mounts. Google search it for better results
