Bilstein 4600, Spring Choices and Lift Help

Here's some other parts you might want to consider, from top to bottom:

1) Rear coil top cones. Replacement might be overkill, but seems some of the guys replace them anyway after certain years or miles.

2) Rear bottom bumper dampers. Same as above.

3) This is 99 tall rear coil, not relevant if you chose OME.

4) This is 99 tall RH front coil, not relevant if you chose OME.

5) This is 99 tall LH front coil, not relevant if you chose OME.

6, 7, 8) Front strut top bottom caps and bumper.

9, 10) Not spring shock related, but are F + R sway bar bushings, rubber part might be worth replacing.

11, 12) Parts needed to build up front struts off the truck, can also be a big time saver on install day, esp if old parts are rusty.

I didn't mention the Bilstein 4600s, but love the ride with those, can't wait to get mine and put them on.

Thank you so much for this list. It's true that I went with the 880/906 combo, so some of it is not entirely relevant. But I'm really spending a lot of time on here and soaking up all I can. Having a straightforward and to-the-point breakdown of what comprises this assembly is SUPER helpful. As I mentioned in a previous post somewhere, I'm okay with a wrench, but this stuff is just totally new to me--I have a lot to learn, and geeking out over small parts lists like this is invaluable to me at this point.

As your list highlights, my next plan of attack regarding ride quality/suspension operation is to take on the bushings. I've seen a lot of guys have been happy with the ES packages (Energy Suspension parts). Looks like I need to do more research to ensure I get the right stuff, and all of it in one go, but I really appreciate (again) your list. It pointed me in the right direction!

Anything else to consider?

So, as mentioned above, I am going to grab some bushings from ES next (for the sway bar assemblies).

I've seen some other guys say that they found their panhard bar was loose, and that was making noise and banging about. I'm not sure how to check this or even where it is, exactly, but I figure I should inspect it.

Otherwise, I've seen some talk of bushings (sort of general, but that's where I am in my knowledge at this point) that go between the frame and the body(?). Is that on the level? Is it possible that aside from shocks, springs, and sway bar bushings, the bushings in other places could be bad and causing this roughness/loud sound from time to time? It's independent now from the suspension's action or movement. I'm happy with that. All I can think to do is get the ES bushings and see what they improve. Totally happy to keep doing things that increase my knowledge and know-how, but any pointers or ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thanks again for all the input. I'm up and on here because I couldn't sleep. So I will keep this one short. But I'm definitely looking into body mount bushings to perhaps calm down some of the noise and roughness in the ride--at the same time I am considering doing a 1" body lift. And since I believe I will have to dig into the steering assembly to install an extension there, I will also be looking into small parts for that area that will hopefully improve a very small knock I feel through the steering wheel when going into driveways, just to offer one example. So far the 880/906 combo with Bilstein 4600 shocks is doing just fine. As mentioned above, there is still an issue not related to suspension, in so far as I can tell, and I am still trying to chase it down. May still do sway bar bushing kit also at the same time.

Otherwise, brake work is needed now. It looks like anyone on here who has done the Tundra upgrade is 100% pleased with it. I've got a couple buddies who suggest doing drilled and slotted rotors, new pads, and a fresh bleed. And then I've seen others on here who've simply bled the system, replaced pads, and resurfaced rotors. Is there anyone who has experience with one or more of these that could offer their opinion?

Thanks a bunch for that. It's so cool to have people chime in, here and there, amidst the overabundance of information that is all already out there. Huge help.

I already decided on the 880/906 combo to run with my HD's. I've seen some people say that it is a rough ride, but we'll have to see about that. As many have read (or experienced, likely) it seems that roughness or lack thereof is just as subjective a ride characteristic as anything else out there.

In the end, I am just happy to know that this should be an amazing improvement over my dead stock springs, and that they will provide a very modest lift over stock (perhaps something like the '99 tall coils, but maybe a little more, and with greater weight bearing traits) without needing further mechanical adjustments to the truck (e.g., panhard bar, differential drop, brake hose extension), and without totally overextending the HD's.

Again, I took my 4runner to a recommended shop near me when I was having what I could only vaguely refer to at the time as, "suspension problems," and had a few bushings swapped out, along with the shocks. This was a fix I needed, but it was really only a small portion of the bigger picture, and had I been better educated at the time, I'd have done the shocks and springs and more lift and all the rest.

Reviving this thread since I can’t post a new one. I need a very mild lift bc the magnaflow overland cat back exhaust is banging into the lateral arm bolt of the rear axle. Around where I live is an aggressive amount of speed bumps. I’d like to drive over them at speed and was looking for peoples experience of how a bilstein 5100 w ome 880/906 vs bilstein 4600 w ome 880/906 soaks up speed bumps. I’m currently running on hd4600 with stock oem springs.

Reviving this thread since I can’t post a new one. I need a very mild lift bc the magnaflow overland cat back exhaust is banging into the lateral arm bolt of the rear axle.

A lift won't change the way the axle travels. It'll still hit, just on larger suspension compressions.

The right way to fix it is to fix the exhaust...
