Bilstein 5100 Availability

I don't get it either. Couple years back I had plenty of choices when I wanted the 5100s for the Wife's FJ. Got a set at a great price and was able to shop around and choose who I wanted to send my money to. Surprises me a company their size could have a "shortage" for that long. However, it's not uncommon in the Aerospace world (or at least over 20 years ago when I was in it) for the problem with a single support vendor. Those companies don't/can't make every single component. If a supply dries up you may have to wait it out, or completely redesign your product. In the latter case usually waiting is less lost revenue than a total redesign/retooling.

I don't see how this could be considered a long term issue, must just be bad timing, as I ordered my rear 5100's mid April and they were in stock with wheelers. It was the SAW coils I had to wait two weeks on, which was no biggie. Maybe supply is just coming out slow, but maybe spring is the time when everyone orders so they get a little behind?
 
its not long term they are backordered until next month... its not a crisis. some places still have stock but you have to A. be willing to search and/or B. be willing to pay
 
[MENTION=81573]Stifler[/MENTION] is right. They're available if you're willing to pay a few bucks more. I ordered a full set of front and rear 5100s from Toytec about 3 weeks ago. As I recall, it only took 4 days from the time of my order until they arrived at my door---and that was just standard shipping---no sort of rush delivery. It was $399 for the set. I know that's a little higher price than some forum members have found elsewhere, but every other online source I searched at the time said that there was at least a 1 month wait/back order. I think the instant gratification was worth the minor upcharge...
 
I just got a shipping notice from shockwarehouse.com that the bilsteins 5100 I ordered on 4/5/14 are shipped. Should be here on Tues. Not happy with the long wait but at least they are finally on thier way.

From 4wheel parts, where my set is currently backordered since April 4th, "the mfgr moved their facility causing a shut down of production for a period of time thus a delay in supplying orders". You would think they would be a bit sharper of business people that would avoid such a situation. But hey, I run my business, not theirs.

Update today: expected ship date now of mid to late Aug.
Another pisser is that 4Wheel Parts charged me for this entire set when the order was placed. Even though they had nothing to send me.

So what can I get from King and/or Icon? The shopping starts over. Think I will just call Toytec tomorrow and use their experience for what I am trying to achieve lift and ride wise.

well that was a wet dream... Auto anything emailed saying out of stock. I went on their site and it still says IN STOCK. Pretty shitty way to do business considering they charged my card last week. Fuk em ordered canceled

they told me they spoke directly to Bilstein (I dont know that I believe that) and they were told July. I cancelled fuk em
 
Cancelled my order with 4Wheel Parts a few days ago and reordered from Toytec today. In stock and ready to ship. Finally on their way!! Sure hope they help that seesaw ride effect when braking.

They help dampen but will not completely remove the seesaw. You will still get some nosedive under moderate to hard braking. It is the nature of the beast. The only better fix would be stiffer springs and that would come with some loss of ride quality. I don't feel like I am losing any control from the nosedive even under hard braking so it doesn't bother me anymore. I just look at it as a reminder that I am not driving a Corvette.

I wonder of Bilstein is filling bulk orders like this for Toytec before they start shipping smaller lots to other distributors?
 
Can someone please confirm the correct part number for the front adjustable shocks for my 2014. Part #24-186711. Reason I ask is this is the part number Toytec shows, but when I look up for 2014 on Bilstein website, it shows a different number of #24-196499. Please let me know. Thanks.

So I called Toytec, and they said that 24-196499 is the catalog list on Bilstein for my exact model, but that the 24-186711 they have listed will also work for my 2014. Said it will be a little stiffer than the 196499. Thoughts?

Edit: Just got a call back from 4WheelParts. They said they spoke directly with a guy at Bilstein, and they suggest not installing the 24-186711 on our trucks as they are too long and will bottom out ruining the shock. That we should only install 24-196499.

Be glad to post the exact number when I have them in my hands. My order was placed over the phone with a technical advisor so they chose which adjustable 5100s to send.

Yea, I currently drive a Yukon XL for work, an older Chevy 1500HD Quadrasteer for weekend hauling and a Wrangler 4door for fun and previously a 97 T4R. The ride quality is fine in this 2014 T4R but it is just that stopping motion I can't get used to. None of the others behave like this. Actually spotted a 2014 SR5 the other day and paid close attention to it in the lane beside me when we were approaching a red light. Could actually see the front drop and the rear rise upon braking. Seesaw! All vehicles do it but this was exaggerated.

Edit: this T4R is the wife's daily driver. As was the 97.

Soooo... What is Toytec doing about the 186711 that is listed, I wonder. I was literally about to order today until I saw this thread. I don't even see the 196499 on their site.

When I spoke to Toytec, they said that they didn't have the 196499 in stock. I was able to find a pair of the 196499 on Amazon, and they're on their way right now. Will be here Friday. Cost me an extra $20 or so. But saving maybe 2 months was worth that I think.
