Bilstein 5100 install on front

When installing the springs on the struts, where should the perch be positioned so the spring seat is in the correct spot? Toyota service manual says the spring "tail" should be furthest from the front.

Just about every picture of a 5100 install I see online has the springs seated on that perch in random places. Will there be any problems if not installed in this particular position?

For example - this would be WRONG according to the Toyota manual.

I would guess there's a reason they say that. When I did mine, I just noted the direction when I removed it. However, I've swapped suspensions several times so I have no idea if that's the "right" position. I've noticed no ill affects, but I don't know exactly where mine are located.

They say that because the spring perch on the OEM shocks is fixed, welded to the shock body.

The Bilsten spring perch rotates about the shock freely, so it does not matter how you "clock" the spring.

Agreed, so long as the spring tail butts up to the raised portion of the spring perch, it's in the correct position.
