Bilstein 5100 Rear Stock height?

I just installed Bilstein 5100's on the front with the .85 setting. The rear is still stock due to backorder for the rear shocks 5100's. As far as leveling goes it is exactly right where I want it. Bilstein 5100's will be installed for the rear in 2 weeks but now im reading everywhere that using 5100's for the rear will provide me unwanted lift. I read other people saying that using 5100's in the rear gave them unexpected lift. Does anyone know how much lift it gave them? Depending on how much that is, I may just live with it if its not too bad.

Should I still get 5100's for the rear which will give me a little bit of unexpected lift on the rear OR is there another direct bilstein shock replacement for the rear that will not affect the height?

The rear 5100s shouldn't change ride height, if they do it'll be minimal, under .5". if you're to worried about it, the bilstein hd is the same shock, only stock length.
 
I plan on installing Bilsteins at .85 as well. How much actual lift did you get up front?

I also plan on installing 5100 rears. I don't expect much lift with the stock springs.
 
Hey rafrey I didnt take any measurements prior to doing this but I should have. What I can do is give you the measurements as it is now at .85 setting on the front. I am afraid that itll look weird if the 5100 in the rear will raise it up to .5". Maybe I should get the bilstein 5100's hd instead.

Has anyone ever installed 5100's on front and rear with stock springs, stock tires with .85 setting on the fronts and stock setting on the rears? Did you still have the rake or was it level? Anyone have pics with this setup?Any meaurements or advice/recommendations?

Judging from all I have read here, you will most likely get more than .85 inches of lift in front. The top of my front wheel well sits at 33.5" stock, with 275/65/16 tires. I'm hoping for at least 1".

Yes it would be great to know what height yours sits at now.

Here's my measurments from center of the hubs to the top of the fenderwells.
This is with the .85 setting in the fronts and the stock oem shocks in the rear.

Right Front-20"
Left Front-20"
Right Rear-21"
Left Rear-21"

According to ark_swamp_rider and a couple other people, putting 5100's in the rear might raise it but it will be minimal.(within .5") That would put me at 20" in the fronts and approximately 21.5" or more in the rears. That would be a noticeable rake in the front again which I don't want. But if you want to be safe about it and want an exact replacement for stock height then go with the Bilstein HD. Im leaning towards getting the HD's for the rear.

Anyone running 5100's in the front and rear with the 1.75 setting in the front?
Pictures? Any thoughts on this?

OK I measured my stock 4x4 SR5. I only did the drivers's side and got 21" rear, 19" front from hub to inside fender. I measured another stock SR5 in the parking lot with 17" rims, and got the same measurements.

So assuming that your stock measurements were the same as mine and the other 4Runner, it appears you got an actual 1" lift by using the .85 setting.

If you install the rear 5100s and get another .5" back there, you could always go back in and adjust the fronts to the 1.75 setting, which should net you a 2" lift (according to my excellent basic algebra skills). Putting you at 21.5 rear and 21 front. This would reduce your rake from 2" to .5". Theoretically.
 
I don't know if this makes any difference but I have 18" Limited wheels with 265/60 tires on them. I think it's almost the same as having 17" wheels with 265/60 tires.

Made up my mind. Rear 5100's are going on tomorrow. I'll let you know the measurements. Who knows, i may go to the 1.75 setting up front if your theory is correct. Haha
 
The notches on the shocks are within 1/8" being 1/2" apart. They may be even closer than that, it's been a while since I measured. 1/2" difference will equal 1" lift, so I agree with the above, probably closer to 2".

Also, stock size for the 18's is 265/60/18, which is the same as the stock size 17's, 265/65/17.
 
Good luck, yeah let us know how it goes! Are you doing it yourself or taking it to a shop? If you are doing it yourself, can you take some pictures along the way?
 
Just had the rear 5100's installed today at the shop and
There is no change with with stock height. The measurements did not change for the rear. That being said, I wont be bumping the front up to the 1.75 setting. I am happy with the way she rides now, it handles really well.
 
That's great to hear. Have you noticed a difference in ride quality? Have your passengers that sit in the back offered any feedback? Do you have any photos?
 
I just installed a full set of 5100s on my 04 V6 this weekend, with stock springs.
I set the fronts at 1.75 and it leveled out nicely. The shocks did not raise the rear at all.

The ride is much tighter, no more wallowing around on the road. The damping is much better matched to the stock springs.

The rear shocks have nothing to do with ride height since they are not coilovers. The rear spring is the only thing that will change your height.

Looks good, I have the same 16" rims. Are those the stock 265/70/16 tires?
 
My effective front lift was about 1.25 inches at the 1.75 inch setting on the 5100 front shock. I have an 04 V6, 2WD. I would imagine results would vary slightly depending on drivetrain.

I went from a 2.5 inch difference front to back, to a 1.25 inch difference front to back.

I got my new wheels and tires on tonight, it looks really good and does not seem to rub at all. I will post pics tomorrow.

1.25" sounds good and still retains a little bit of rake. Cant wait to see the photos!
