Interesting, the issue with my setup may be that I'm running 4runner valved 5100's with Tacoma springs. Bilstein claims that they valve specifically for different vehicles. Wonder if this is really true between Tacoma and 4Runner, PN is different anyway.
I get how the valving in shocks should be tuned to match the vehicle but to me a spring is a spring...i don't really understand how they are tuned to match a vehicle or a shock.
Ive got a set of 5100's and was wanting to leave em at 0" and buy either the OME 883 or toytec's eibach 620. Toytec and ome say don't use ome coil w/ bilstein shock, use the eibach, but not sure why. The OME is more what I'm looking for, a little softer and not quite as much lift. I know a lot of people have run this setup, especially on tacoma forum, but is there any reason why the eibach + 5100 would ride nicer since the two are supposedly matched for each other?
883 are 14.76in @590lb (1.5in of lift)
Eibach are 15.125in @620lb (1.6in of lift)
While I see a ton of useful info on lifts, I notice a lot of full lift vs full lift debate, but not 5100 + stock coils :
My thoughts are the 1.75" front setting on a V6 will result in the front end being higher than the rear. The V8 is a gamble, with a heavier engine it *should* level out. I'm a V8 and really don't want the front end being higher up.
Anyone else with 5100's and stock springs chime in with some pics please!! I've been searching for weeks!
Just wanted to post an update after installing 5100's front and rear shocks with stock springs. 2008 V8 4x4 here with 110k miles. 5100's set to 1.75" in front. Completely removed the x-reas system and lines (what a mess!).
Measurements from ground to fender (at center of wheel)
Before:
LF 33.25" RF 33"
LR 35.75" RR 36"
After (approx 50miles of driving):
LF 35" RF 35"
LR 35.2" RR 36"
Gain of 2” in front and 0 in rear. Pretty much as expected. The truck is pretty much level at this point however I’m wondering after loading cargo/camping gear etc I may end up with a negative rake (don’t want). We’ll see!
NOTES:
Interesting to see the LR at a lower height - maybe fuel load difference? Alignment came out perfectly with nothing out of specs after. No rubbing issues at this time with 265-65-18 Limited wheels. Overall impression of the 5100's is good. With using the stock springs the ride hasn't drastically changed (which is perfect for me). I notice less body roll in cornering and less nose dive under braking.
