So i have done some searching in an attempt to understand which one on these routes is better for ride quality. However I have not been able to determine at least given my search terms.

I am hoping someone can at least tell me which option is the better solution for ride quality and DD behavior?

It is my understanding that the bilsteins, are likely the better option for off-road and crawling situations. However it is also my understanding that you are more than likely paying a for a name with the bilsteins.

What this really boils down to is that I can get the OME 2" lift cheaper than going with the bilstein option, but should i just pony up and the get bilsteins?

Which is better offroad?
Which has better ride quality?

There's lots of details and reviews on bilstein's and a TON on OME on t4r.org and toyota 120. I don't think Bilstein is just a name, as they're usually reasonable and seem to have good reliability (based on what I've read). In general, if you're just talking DD characteristics, the OME tend to have much stiffer rear shocks for all the 4th gn kits (30% stiffer vs. the 10% stiffer Icon or 12% SAW). So that' leads to a rougher ride for OME if you're stock weight. the front can be similar if you don't pay attention to which coils you buy, unless you go with the 883 or 884.

I'd go take a look at the kits your comparing and compare spring rates to factory (everything can be found on the fourm). If the springs in the rear are significantly stiffer, it'll likely ride a lot worse unless you have a few hundred pounds to carry around. Ultimately it'll come down to what your needs or wants are. just my ,02.

FWIW I have never ridden on OME, and my 6112 install is part way so best I can do is rephrase what I'v read here.

I love my 6112... its a larger diameter shock with a matched spring for stock loads... its going to ride awesome. The 6112 is to date my favorite mid range setup until you decide to plunge into the world of coil overs from brands like FOX, ICON, King...

The 5160 is a shock, so you still need a rear spring. I am using a 2" OME 2895 260lb rate spring. Its stiffer, I like the ride, but there are days when I think I dont have enough weight in the rear and the ICON 200-220lb spring might have been a better choice.

I just installed 6112's on my 2016 SR5 today. Whew!

We hated that stock mushy ride.

I was not looking to lift mine at all. Still I think the lowest setting for the 6112's upped the front end about 3/4 of an inch.

5160's are in the mail and should arrive in a few days.

I called Bilstein and they told me the springs that come with the 6112's from Bilstein are 600# as opposed to 580# stock.

We ran it over some dips and it was nice, no excessive bounce but not harsh at all. Hard stop and just one reset, no up and down like the original suspension.

OME is good equipment but I would find out what the pound rating is the for spring first. Getting a good ride is more about having a shock and spring that are matched.

Having a general purpose shock with a lot of different spring combos means you are not going to get the best ride. If the shock can be valved to tune it to the spring that's ok. But valving gets complicated and unless OME could do it for you I would just go Bilstein.

Well, did you install the 5160s yet? :bounce:
