Bilstein 6112 & 5160 Install Question

I just received the Bilstein 6112/5160 kit and also the Icon 2" springs for the rear along with clamps for the reservoir. I will be taking it to shop for install. I would like a 2" overall lift on my 2014 Trail with KDSS. Later in the year, I will be getting my SSO hybrid bumper but no bumpers in the rear.

My question: is there anything they should know before installing or is it pretty much a straight forward install for this vehicle? Anything to lookout for?

Not to sound mean man, but this is not something you should be having to advise a worthy shop on. You're in a hugely populous area, I would think you found a shop very familiar with the 4R suspension before you agree to put your vehicle in their hands.

If you HAVEN'T, I'm not even out there but I know Califabrication is somewhat close to you and they can do literally anything with... well, just about any off road vehicle. Look them up and I know that they would hook you up.

No mention of front springs. Adding a winch or just the bumper? The SSO bumper with a 9500 pound winch added ~130 pounds up front and lost me about 3/4" of height on the factory springs. I ended up getting a pair of OME 885 2" springs and setting the 5100 clips back at 0 to get my front lift back. Just something to consider. Do it all once and get it over with if you get my drift. It would ride a little stiff up front until you get the bumper hung, but not too bad. I don't even know if OME springs will fit your shocks, but a medium spring upgrade is probably in your future.

NP and thanks for the advice...that's out of my way but their works looks great. I looked at the instructions and watched some videos and it looks straightforward to me. There is always that one "gotcha" which I am looking to avoid.

The front springs are the ones that came with the 6112's from Bilstein. SSO says the front hybrid bumper weights only 40lbs more then the stock set up and I will be adding a winch in a few years but for now, it will only have the 20″ Heise LED Light Bar. I like the rake angle and figure if they set it up evenly at 2" front and back...the bumper should give me a small rake.

Bilstein 6112's/5160's is a great bundle option.

Here is something to be mindful of. Not sure how much aftermarket weight you have in the rear, but the 5160's are limited to 0-2" of lift.

A lot of people are getting 2.5-3" with the ICON 52700 at stock weight. If this is a daily driver, you may not notice anything, but off-road, you may experience limited travel on the rear shocks.

Bilstein 6112 & 5160 Install Question

No problem with my 6112/5160 combo and icon 2” rear springs. I ride on 285 70/17’s from Falken. Also the 5160’s are only 1/4” longer than OEM. You will need LT’s in order to go beyond 22.5” of travel. They bump you up to 28.5 “. The question is how many times do you find yourself on two wheels navigating a canyon listening to your rock sliders scrape against a boulder? If the answer is a lot you need LT rear shocks. Or an Icon stage 7 lift. But if you are going camping and to the snow 6112/5160 is overkill.

2” front and 2” rear will give you more rake than you bargained for. The icon springs put you up almost 2.5 inches FYI. If you want to maintain the rake you need 2.5” front 2” rear.
