Bilstein 6112 In

Sounds like the TRD Pro's are getting a TSB against them and new shocks. Does this mean the 6112s are being revised?

I would wait on the experts to chime in, but I would say it is not needed.

The TRD clunk was what the updated shocks are addressing.

The TRD/Bilstein shocks look similar, but from what Bilstein informed me, before I purchased, they are not the same.
They are valved differently besides the minimum adjustability of the TRD/Bilstein shocks they originally put on the TRD Pro 4Runners.

I have not seen anyone make the first remark or complaint regarding that issue with the 6112's!
I think we are golden.

This is most likely the case, when I bought my 4Runner in May I actually tried to order the TRD Pro Suspension through the dealer from TRD and I was told from 2 different dealers there was a STOP ORDER on those parts. I contacted Toyota and TRD and they said that they couldnt release parts because what they had available was for TRD Pro vehicles to replace their current parts if they had an issue.

Is it true that the coil spring on the TRD strut also has a different spring rate than the coil on 6112?

Yes sir.

TRD: TRD-tuned Eibach® springs with decreased spring rates (softer-than-stock) improve ride quality over harsh terrain and gives a 1-inch higher ride height, for a level front to back appearance that gives better front ground clearance when out on the trail off-highway.

If you are asking about TRD Bilstein shocks on a TRD Pro, those are not 5100's.
The shocks that come on the TRD Pros are larger in dia than the 5100's and valved quite differently.
This will give you detailed info: 2015 Toyota TRD Suspension Info.pdf
Uhhh.... your link Uhhh.... says Uhhh... 5100 Series coil overs my friend.
Just sayin

Front suspension details: TRD-tuned 2.5-inch Bilstein® 5100-series independent coil-over-shock type suspension, TRD-tuned Eibach® springs, and factory stabilizer bar, end links and bump stops.
 TRD-tuned Eibach® springs with decreased spring rates (softer-than-stock) improve ride quality over harsh terrain and gives a 1-inch higher ride height, for a level front to back appearance that gives better front ground clearance when out on the trail off-highway.
 Larger 2.5-inch shocks (similar in size to those used on heavy-duty industrial vehicles) with digressive valving are matched to the softer spring rate for enhanced overall characteristics operating off-highway in the dirt. Larger, more rigid 18mm shock shafts add component strength (original equipment shafts are 12mm).
 The new shocks have also been engineered with a longer-stroke, to give an additional 1-inch of extended, or “down”, wheel travel for enhanced articulation capabilities when off-roading.
 The larger 2.5-inch shocks houses a greater oil capacity than stock equipment; the increased amount of oil means the shocks can better dissipate heat and avoid cavitation created from working the shocks hard off- road. This results in a predictable suspension that consistently works over longer periods of time in some of the most extreme situations and environments.
4Runner TRD Pro uses softer front Eibach® springs for an optimal balance of spring preload and ride height, paired with a larger front diameter coil-over-shock1

That's pretty funny because they are not 5100s, and they are also not 2.5" either.
Don't let your interns write your marketing info.

LOL, that is funny stuff.

Seriously, I just posted the info that Toyota published, I didn't write it.

As far as diameter of the front shocks, they are 60mm monotubes, which is 2.36" dia. So, I guess Toyota rounded up.
The 5100 series shocks are 46mm monotube as published by Bilstein.

Here is another link. Oh, I didn't write it either!

You're right. The dimentions are 6112ish just branded by TRD.
Interesting reading though. Full of TRD hyperbole. I hope people are happy with the kit.
I'm still enjoyed the experience of putting together the suspention I wanted. Sounds like A lot of people here feel the same.

Thanks for that response.

After researching the TRD Pro Suspension and speaking with Bilstein, I decided to wait on the release of the 6112's and pair them with the 5160's.
I was able to purchase the complete front/rears and have the fronts installed & aligned by the dealership for less that the TRD Pro front's were going to cost by themselves. I installed the rears.

Needless to say, I have been happy with my choice.

What settings did you go with on the front?

Does anyone know what size die I would need to clean up the threads on the top bolt of the 6112 or what size nylon lock nut it requires?
My dad was helping me work on the them and when he was putting the nut back on he completely stripped the top half of the threads. So the nut and the top half of the threads are farked.

I hope someone here can give you some advice on that... what a bummer.

If you still have your OEM shocks, can you check to see if the threads are the same as the one on the other side where the threads are not messed up?

BTW, it should screw on at least two turns without much resistance.

If it is, you should be able to go to a hardware store and find out what thread you have.....

I think it's the same as stock which appears to be either m12x1.25 or m12x1.0. I took the nuts off the stock one and it appears to be the same. It goes on a few turns easily then tightens up. The problem is that I can't figure out exactly what it is and I dont want to strip it.
This has been a nightmare so far. I was working on the rear three weeks ago and kicked a jack that was sitting on the floor(no weight on it) and it spun around and severed my Achilles. So I have had to ask people to help and unfortunately not all of them are that mechanically inclined. Thus the cross threaded/stripped shock.
