Bilstein 6112 In

I think it's the same as stock which appears to be either m12x1.25 or m12x1.0. I took the nuts off the stock one and it appears to be the same. It goes on a few turns easily then tightens up. The problem is that I can't figure out exactly what it is and I dont want to strip it.
This has been a nightmare so far. I was working on the rear three weeks ago and kicked a jack that was sitting on the floor(no weight on it) and it spun around and severed my Achilles. So I have had to ask people to help and unfortunately not all of them are that mechanically inclined. Thus the cross threaded/stripped shock.

So, if the OEM nut turns at lease 3 complete turns and then gets somewhat tight, but will still turn without undue resistance (like it is cross threaded), then you are good.
Take the nut to Ace Hardware, Homedepot, Lowes or whomever can determine what thread you have.

. : Note : . I just checked my OEM's and the nut will turn freely 6 turns before the locking part of the nut begins to make resistance.

Hope this helps.

Thank for the feedback folks. I had to just get it towed somewhere. I'm in a boot up to the knee and just couldn't move very well. They are trying to fix it, if not I have to order a new set. I talked to Bilstein and they said it would be ~6 months before they can get me a single. If I have to replace it then I'll send it back to them to get fixed and sell the set once I get it back from their repair shop.

Any 6112 regrets?

Has anyone installed 6112s and regretted it? There's some folks that installed them but not a whole lot of reviews as to the ride quality vs stock. Are they comparable to the TRD Pro ride?

I'll let you know Thursday after I get mine in. :bowl:

No regrets here either. It's the Wife's ride. Only complaint she's had were they were a little "floaty" on some of the rough spots on HWY 130 here in Central Texas (80+MPH speed limits). However have not experienced it on other roadways. I think ditching the OE UCAs and dropping my ball joint Camburgs in will true up the front end for that patch of road. The reduced flex of aftermarket UCAs tend to make this platform feel more stable.

So here are my initial impressions. There is a bit of brake dive for sure. Is it as much as stock? That's difficult to say but if it's less than stock it's not much. Cornering is more flat than before but again it's not remarkable. Where I notice the most difference is bumps, potholes, pavement cracks, etc. What used to be a very noticeable bang is not a quiet and soft thud. I really think they've got it dialed in with the rebound and compression for keeping the tire in constant contact while soaking up the crap. Overall I feel like this is a good balance between performance and comfort. Any stiffer and you'd be able to feel everything in the road. I'm hoping they'll do as well as I expect off-road but I haven't had a chance to test that out.... yet.:heh:

Overall I'm very pleased.

I cant compare to the TRD Pro since I have never driven one. I have driven the KDSS and I own a non-KDSS 4Runner and I will say my 4Runner feels dramatically more stable. Definitely less nose-dive under braking and I have taken it off-road and it is drastically improved.

Is there better systems out there... probably for $$$$$$

No Regrets.

I don't regret it! I love the adjust ability (if I add a bumper/winch I can just raise them up a notch). I didn't notice a HUGE difference (I'd say it was a significant one) with the stock SR5 suspension. It has reduced (not eliminated) the brake dive. It corners very flat. Offroad I have had no issues/complaints. Overall it makes my 4R handle better, provides a little bit more ground clearance, improves the looks, I know they're very strong so I go at it without fear when out on the trails...I definitely recommend them as a upgrade!

For my driving and situations I encounter it is exactly what I needed :bigok:

As promised, my thoughts on the 6112's so far.

I actually installed them Wednesday night after dinner in a few hours. I was previously running 5100's at 1.75" setting with FJ coils. I installed the 6112's on the 4th notch and surprisingly they lifted my 4th gen another 2". Actually, I'm pretty sure the FJ coils were sagging pretty badly. I put 100k on those coils and who knows how many miles were put on them before I got them. The 5100's were also showing their age as the lower bushings were deformed and not riding in the center of the eyelet.

That being said, the 6112's are a huge improvement. Drove on some of our 3rd world country roads at speeds that would usually make me cringe but the 6112's soaked up every bump with ease. Are they as good as the Icons on my 5th gen? Well, no but I didn't pay near as much for the 6112's either. Right now my only complaint is the lack of down travel. I just wish there was a little more. I may remedy this by adding the Toytec spacer and dropping the 6112's a notch or two. Speaking of spacers, I installed a 1/4" spacer on the driver side to avoid the lean. As of now, the passenger side is 1/4" higher but I can live with that.

Did the 6112/5160/UCA/Rear springs today. Once I started the 4R, most of the idiot lights were on. I remembered reading that sometimes the ABS/Speed sensor wires can stretch and snap, but appear ok.

Tracked down a tear in the rear end harness (both wires split at the same spot). Soldered the the wires back together and heat wrapped them. Reinstalled the harness and started the 4R and the 4WD light stays on even if not in 4wd mode. Also at times now the 4wd will not engage.

I plan on replacing the harness with a new one. Should this remedy the above issues? I had no issues prior to the lift.

The 4R is new and only had 600mi on it now.

Thanks

Frank

Does your 4Runner have KDSS or non-KDSS?

It has KDSS. My friend who installed the lift just called and said when he started the truck, no lights were on. Glad, yet confused.

I did order the harness and will replace it since I leave on a trip Friday.

From what I've read replacing the harness is the only way to solve the problem. There have been a couple of people who have had success repairing the ABS wires but most have to do just as you have done and get the harness. You may also need to do a zero point calibration. Hope it works out for you and good luck!

The new, redesigned 6112s are now in stock! Use code T4R to get yours.

How hard is it to adjust the height on these once they are already installed? Was hoping that I didn't have to pull them to change clip setting.

I was going to buy the whole package (6112/5160, rear springs, and UCA), but am just going to get the 6112 for now to level it out. Unexpected home repairs came up.
