Bilstein HD strut c ring fail

Anyone ever have a Bilstein Strut fail at the C-ring? the small ring that holds the spring cup in place on the bottom. Yeah, that came out on me last night while installing the strut. the ring was held in by about 2 inches of material, its was like handling a bomb. I had to pry the rest of the ring off while standing behind a wall until it let go. Oh so fun! Everything was brand new as well, strut, spring, bushings and top damper. Now I need to get a new Strut and try this all over again. the other side of the vehicle zero problems and bolted right up.

I was just wondered if anyone ever heard of such an issue.

Just finished installing these on my 2000 last weekend and it went smooth ... had no problems with those mounts. Did wonder about them letting go, though since they don't seem to be held on by much.
 
thanks, yeah one went good, one not so good. like holding a bomb in my hands. tomorrow a new one comes in to the store and taking to local yota shop to compress and install. I am done with this malarky.
 
Ok I got my new bilstein HD's installed in front with new 99 Toyota springs, pn taken from forum here, question is it now has two inches of lift in front compared to being level before strut/spring replacement? I thought it might be .5 inch taller or something but not two inches. Now it's not all bad, I can get daystar lift for back. But I find it interesting. Only thing I replaced was complete strut. I did tighten sway bar before dropping it back off jack stands, could that be holding it up? Seems odd that it would but I guess I am just thinking that's the only other thing I in bolted. Any help is great. Thank you.

Mine is a 99 limited. And now ground to edge of top of wheel fender is 38 1/4 in front and 36 in back. Before it was level, now it has the third gen rear drop. Springs looked just like my old ones, same paint colors.

WOW that's a hell of a difference!

Sorry I'm not quite helping your situation, but can I ask you to provide where you got your stuff and prices? It seems these things can be available in so many places for so many different prices, care to share?

Thanks man! 38 1/4 is NUTS for stock springs!
 
I got springs at local Toyota dealer. One spring was 80, and one 90 something. It looks a little silly at the moment.
