Bilstein Shocks?

Gonna order some Bilsteins for the '87, but I have a stupid question....

Alot of ppl on here get the 5100 (silver) series, is that because y'all have a lift and do some serious off roading? Would I be good to go just getting the HD (yellow) series since am at stock hieght and it's my DD/weekend warrior? Or is it worth the extra $7 a shock for the 5100's?

Yeah y'all are right, that's only $28 total...

However, all the websites I've looked at say the 5100's are to be used with 3-4" of lift and the HD's are for Stock-2" of lift... Would the 5100's still work with a stock hight T4R?

bump on this thread. I just ordered some 1.5" BJ spacers for the front end of my 1994. Wanting to know if the Bilstein 5100s will work with that amount of lift. I have never cranked the T-bars up. The 5100s say 3-4 inches of lift, but I wondered if anyone had used them with 1.5" like I'm planning.

Ok. Well if anyone knows if these will work on just 1.5" BJ spacers up front. They're intended for 3-4", but wanted to know if anyone has used this in a similar fashion.

The "silver" 5100 series shocks are for lifted trucks. the "yellow" standard heavy duty units are for stock.

Thanks. The issue is mine will be "lifted" 1.5" with ball joint spacers. I'm wondering if it will be enough to warrant using the silvers. They list 3-4" of lift.

EDIT: and obviously 3-4" > 1.5", but I wondered if anyone had more insight into this.

If not, I've got a pair of 5100s, unused, for sale.

They list the "yellows" as being good for stock-2" of lift. Bilstein is fairly exacting in their specs. One nice aspect of the Yellows, if you decided to go back to stock suspension settings, you won't have to change out the shocks.

yeah those list some different ones for 2-2.5" and the 5100s for 3-4".

Put some 2" bj spacers and those 2"-2.5" shocks. I was looking at that setup. Let me know how it goes if you go that route.

I ordered the 1.5" spacer set from Roger Brown. I'll probably end up getting a set of the Bilstein HDs instead, the 5100s really need to be compressed a LOT to fit in the stock setup.

EDIT: Roger Brown just got back to me, he confirmed they will work with my wheels. May need to do a little trimming...and Bob's your uncle.

I have a 1.5" BJ spacer and zuk mod with 3rd gen springs. My measurements are from ground to fender. Front 38" rear 36". What do you guys think?

Will not work in this case. Definitely wont work in the front. And unless your zuk mod netted you a 3-4" lift over factory in the rear then it will not work here either. I run 5100's in the rear and it is pretty clear that a truck with a lower height will be bottoming out the shock under compression.... no good.

just go w/ the yellow body.
I think the shortest travel 5100 is 10". Stock height and a 10" travel shock is to long.
