Bilstein TRD Pro suspension kit on sale PTR13-35140

Ahh, just noticed you have a Pro. The Dobby 1" WILL work on yours - but not with this kit.
What’s the difference?

Also, anyone install these with KDSS. The 6112 instructions say to match both sides to the same slot if Using with KDSS. I remember seeing that these had two notches, should they both be placed in the same notch as well?

The Dobinsons won't give you any additional lift. The stay exactly the same as the TRD tuned FJ TT 14". Wait for the 2" to come out mid summer if you want 2 inches in the front without spacers.

This is 100% correct. I posted pics earlier showing the Dobby 1" springs side-by-side to the OEM TRD coil. Both are dead nuts on at 14".

So the TRD FJ springs and TRD Pro 4Runner springs are different?
EDIT: Found my answer- http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/237240-trd-pro-front-coils-measurements.html#post2682068

So now I ask- are the perch heights the same between TRD 4R & FJ struts?

I own a Pro. That’s why I ordered the Dobinsons 1” Pro springs for my stock 4R Pro front struts. Keep in mind the Dobinsons are larger diameter, which is in part as to how they add lift.

I ordered the OEM FJ TRD kit so that I have spare shocks in the future if any fail.

What’s the difference?
TRD Pro/6112 shocks are a 2.5” (roughly) body and require springs with a wider 3” inner diameter.

Yes the general consensus is to put it on the same upper notch with KDSS.

I just ordered a kit as a backup for my truck. If someone with a non-Pro model orders them, will they need Pro tophats for the front, or can the standard tophats be re-used?

I reused my 2017 SR5 top hats with this kit without issue.

I think further back in this thread it was confirmed the Pro shocks and these shocks have different spring perch heights out of the box. that is why the springs that come with each kit are different lengths as well. I bet you could skip ordering new coils for your pro and put the FJ springs on front for more lift seeing folks here say they are longer than the 4runner pro springs. would be worth trying seeing you already have the kit.

Indeed. However, I'm going to keep both orders and install the Dobinsons springs when they arrive.

The FJ kit will likely sit in the box in the basement. If/when I decide which route I'm going to go on the winch setup (I have an Engo SR10S leftover from my SR5), I'll have the options of using the 14" FJ springs on either front struts to hold the extra weight, or go with Dobinsons 2", or some 16" King springs at 600/700# rates.

It'll be nice having a few options as I don't quite have everything decided right now.

So the Dobinson's 1" lift coils are 14" long? I can't seem to find your pictures.
Yes. But there’s more that goes into “lift” than coil length and spring rate.

Wire diameter, number of wraps, and width of coils also play a role. I had a long conversation with Mike @ Dobinsons yesterday regarding all of this.

To clarify......The FJ kit 6112 lower coil perch is 1” lower than the TRD Pro T4r 6112 lower coil perch.....meaning if used on the fj kit 6112, there will be 1” less preload than the Dobinson 1” coil was meant to have.

Well I ordered their spacers, probably will be the last thing I ordered from them, since their attitude and some of their other suspension products are, to quote them, rubbish. I don't mind how the truck rides with the lower perch spacer, in fact I think it's a large improvement over the stock trail suspension. But if they don't want to make money and tell you their products are shit, then I guess they won't sell much will they?

Idk, he said the spacers were only designed for the TRD Pro version. Maybe it has to do with the longer spring or different valving. I don’t think he would gain much by telling me wrong information, but it’s probably all perspective on what “rubbish” is.

A question for those that have installed the kit. Most people are installing new top mounts in the front, but what about the rear? Does the kit comes with new "rear shock cushions"? I'm referring to the parts listed as 48530G and 48530K in this diagram. Are you replacing those rubber pieces with new ones or re-using the stock ones? It would be about $54 to get the set of 4 (OEM).

So acroding to toytech, adding spacers to the fj Bilstein turns the ride to “rubbish”.

I have Toytec's lower perch spacer + FJ TRD Pro kit on my car. My 4R definitely rides much stiffer than stock, but still smoother & comfortable than my previous car (E90 335i w/ ZHP). As I previously mentioned in earlier post, the ride quality degraded after putting this "stiffer" suspension setup is comparable (or slightly less) to switching from stock tires to BGF KO2 (LT LRC spec). Ride quality is a very subjective matter, so take my feedback with a grain of salt.

I reused the rear stuff. Have about 1k on the ODO so they were brand new. Others have stated re-using the rear components are fine but recommend using new top hats for the front. I ordered the KYB top hats and the place that installed said everything fit perfectly and they used all the parts. The only think I got back from them was a box filled with my stock suspension.

My front top hats had 700 miles on em so I re-used them.

The rear come with new lower ones that lock into the frame so the shock doesn't spin when you tighten it. Re-use the top ones.

2 month update. Still riding awesome! Need them dob 2" springs to come out so I can hopefully level this thing!
