Bilstein TRD Pro suspension kit on sale PTR13-35140

There are spacers that preload coils and those that fit on top of the coilover. These that I linked are “top plate spacers” which fit on top of the coil. We could start a huge conversation/discussion/argument regarding the pros and cons of a top plate spacer.....in short, if you’re going to wheel (off-road) your 4 runner at fast speeds and routinely be bottoming out/topping out your suspension then spacers are probably not going to be the best route. If you are mostly street with moderate slower speed off-roading....many see no prob with this small of a top plate spacer.

There are larger top plate spacers 2”-3”. These can cause issues when suspension is fully bottomed out before bump stops stop the suspension. This can damage the shock body.

With all this said, keep in mind that when you lift you T4r fronts 2.5” , your stock uca’s may limit your alignment in being able to get to the most desirable settings. Aftermarket uca’s can fix this.

Good info. I think Ill just go with a 1.0" top plate spacer. I dont do any high-speed off-road. More backroads to get to camping spots with easy/medium trails.

You can use other brand coilover springs in 3"x14" or whatever you find suitable for your needs. Kings 3x14. 600# or 650# for example, Trd tx baja 3"x14" 650# is another one.

I considered the kings and Baja coils as well when I was contemplating purchasing this kit. I wanted to take advantage of the great price on this kit. But I also wanted to keep my 2.5” lift I already have. This kit supposidley comes with 3x14” 600lb eibach coils (which gives 1” lift). In order to gain a full 2.5”, my guess would be that 3x14.75” 600lb coils would do it while keeping the shocks working as designed and not adding too much stiffness to ride.....I’m not aware of any 3x14.75 600 lb coils though.

....another option I considered was the dobinsons 2” coil and add a 1/4” top plate spacer for a full 2.5” lift.
My guess is that dobinsons 2” lift coil for these 6112’s is a 3x14.5” 600lb coil.
Hopefully someone will get some answers on coils that can achieve more lift on this fj kit soon.
For now though, I’m very happy with my 5100’s/ome coil/Spc/rear t-13coil setup.

What is more reliable about that?

Based on what I read here, adding toytec bottom spacers is comparative to using higher notch on 6112 shocks. You are effectively preload the springs by 1/2” and lift the body by 1”. The chance of this type spacer coming loose and/or hindering shocks performance would be lower than tophat spacers.

plasticsnaks, I think Dobinson’s TRD +1” lift springs might not work with this FJ kit as their length and rate might be shorter and lower. Also, they wont be out for another month. I just gave up the waiting and went with Toytec spacers for front (total 2” over stock) with Dobinson’s cp59-505 rear coils which will give about 1.25-1.5” lift.

plasticsnaks Just to confirm, the rear wheelers T13 will fit with the 5160s?

As far as I’ve researched, they’ll be fine with the T-13s. I have the T-13 with my 5100’s and works great.... I believe the 5160s are the same length as the 5100s.
Below is a long thread covering lifting the pro model 4runner which basically has the same suspension as this kit has. Plenty used 1.5-2” rear lift coils.

That wheelers spacer is a similar preload spacer but will not fit the 6112s....too small of diameter. The 6112 is a large diameter shock body (~2.5”). The Toytec 1” lift spacer that was referred too in an earlier post is made specifically for the 4runner Pro which has the same 6112 fronts that this FJ kit has.

Can someone help me understand the difference in the T12 vs. the T13 as it relates to the 4th gen?

Wheeler's site says the T12 provides approx 1.5" on the 4th gen but gives the 5th gen 2.5" lift. Why would it be more lift on the 5th gen?

Their site also says the T13 gives the 5th gen 1.5" of lift....then what will they do to the 4th gen? Would it only be 1/2" ?

I would've thought the lift of any spring would be less going from a 4th to 5th gen due to the increased weight ?

Along with the FJ shocks I'm looking to match one of these 2 in the rear (or something from Dobinsons) along with either a different (non TRD) front spring (maybe T1) or spacer for level.

Looking to achieve between ~2-2.5 total. Thanks

I just ordered mine from eBay without a vin number. It was about $100 more than most paided but I didn’t need a vin... the funny part is I haven’t found a 4runner to put the kit on. On the hunt for a 2010-12 Trail in my price range. My plan it to get it all assembled prior to having the runner and pull it in the driveway and install immediately. Then do my state inspection and alignment at the same time. I’m going to add an inch or so to the lift. Since the strut uses a stock top plate it should fit a daystar preload spacer. I’ll try it since I already own it and if it doesn’t work I’ll spring for Toytec spring seat. I’ll post up results when the parts show up next week. In the mean time cross your fingers I find a 4Runner.

May be best to ask the 4th gen guys the 4th gen question.

Found something on Bilstein's website.

4runner: https://cart.bilsteinus.com/details...725134&Submodel=3437467149318693737&Pos=Front
FJ: https://cart.bilsteinus.com/details...778601585403&Pos=Front&Dr=3112009286152296090

There should be some differences since they have different specs and part number.
Emailed Bilstein and waiting for their reply to see what exactly the differences are.

The rear shocks are the same according to their search engine.

Been there, done that. Bilstein won't really give any detailed information on TRD suspension components because it's proprietary, but they guy I spoke with said there are definitely differences given the part numbers. Here's where I posted it: Post 258

Just got my box in from the dealership no problem. 573, no tax, no shipping. Supplied VIN off a craigslist post, 0 questions asked.

Looks like I am going to go a different route so I have mine for sale if anyone is interested. $650 and I can deliver it to you personally in the greater Phoenix area. :cry2:

Placed my order for this kit from Toyota Parts Factory (Camelback Toyota). They emailed me to say that it is a manual order request item and that it will take up to 3 days for it to arrive to them before they can ship it out. So hoping to get it the week of the 2nd. It should be a great upgrade for my stock SR5 Premium. For those who have installed it, any hiccups along the way that I should be aware of? I saw that KDSS had an issue with the resi mounts, but I shouldn't have to worry about that.

Ordered mine Tuesday should see it tomorrow or Saturday at the dealer. I’ve really appreciated all the KDSS write ups on the forum to help out when I install them. Definitely looking forward to wheeling this summer with this set up!

I’ve started my install tonight.
