Bilstein TRD Pro suspension kit on sale PTR13-35140

Finished mine up yesterday also. Had the advantage of having a beater car so I took my time but could have easily knocked it out in a day instead of the week I took. One mistake i made was letting a weld tab for the rears fall back into the frame so I had to get another. My numbers and ride match everything I've seen posted up here. The only thing left is to get the alignment done and enjoy it. If you area novice I wouldn't think twice about tackling this install. Just have the right tools and it's very straight forward.

TwistedJake ... looks nice!

I have the exact same setup in boxes in the garage, gonna add JBA UCA's while I'm at it. Call it insurance that I will get good alignment numbers, anyway this was such a smoking deal that I'm cool being $1,150 all in. Got the grandson on the 4th so its happening this coming weekend.

I finally got the funding for a suspension and the only ones left seem to be at dealers that don’t do internet or phones. Just local. Found one last kit on eBay for $800 shipped. For that price I may as well get the 6112/5160s for $1100 unless someone here gives me a good reason

$300?

Got a set of shocks with 6k miles on em today, $500 got the rears on and Thursday new 14” 600lb front eibachs will be in and I got some new trdp rear coils off a guy at work who went with toytec supplied springs, Can’t beat that by much I guess.. check out my fs post for my xreas/toytec spacers if interested!

Today was the day that the lift went on. I added a Daystar 1.25" spacer up front and the Wheelers Off Road Eibach t13 springs in the rear.

Tackled it myself for the most part and was on par for about a 6 hour install solo but I was draining my energy. Then I had visitors who wanted to BS so that killed some time. In the end I recruited my 14 year old son to come down and help. It's amazing how much smoother it went with an extra set of hands. In the end it took 8 hours from the time I rolled into the shop, doing it with floorjack and jackstands, no air tools, and also installed the BD Fogs.

Here are the before and after measurements with nearly a full tank of gas. I'll measure again after things settle.

Rf = 20.25 22.00 = 1.75"
Lf = 20.00 22.00 = 2.00"
Lr = 22.00 23.25 = 1.25"
Rr = 22.50 23.25 = .75"

I left the clips at the factory offset positions as I don't have KDSS. As you can see it leveled out the lean. Need to get an alignment this week. Anyone have any suggestions on a good shop in Oregon who can do it?

Ordered wheels/tires yesterday so will get those on in a couple weeks.

Here is a pro tip for pushing the LCA down enough to clear everything. Use a box end wrench and cheater bar. The wrench actually locks in there nice and safe. My son was able to push down easily enough to make it work without worry of slipping.

I made sure to clock the front springs to show the TRD logo. Just one of those little details.

Sent you a PM!

Is it necessary to change UCAs?

No it’s not, just don’t get shocks and expect them to go on, they use a 3” dia spring where as the xreas is 2.5” bottom and 3” top.. oh well, I got some that are 1” longer and slightly heavier load capability so I can install them with the perch all the way down but still be leveled.

So the parts guy at my dealer said his warehouse said there was 1 suspension left in stock for 550$. He also said there was a 50/50 chance of it actually being there. So I ordered it. I’ll know by Tuesday.

They showed up!!

Now i need to figure out the rest of what I want to ed up with a 2/1 lift. Form reading and looking no one seams to have a 2" lift spring for this set up (over stock 4Runner height) so I'm thinking a Cornfed spacer, and then Dobinson rear spring. I see Dobinson is working on springs for the 2.5" body shocks, hope they can get them worked out.

Finally got this lift put on the other day. Night and day difference over the factory setup. Like someone had mentioned earlier, it just feels more planted and compliant especially going over bumps. I am 100% satisfied with this setup in conjunction with the Toytech 2” lift kit for TRD Pro. I also ditched the trail wheels in favor of the OEM TRD Pro wheels. Originally I was running 275 KO2s load range E. The new setup did a great job toning down the stiffness of the load range E but I always wanted a more softer and plush ride. I’ve finally achieved what I was looking for by going with the 285 KO2s in load range C. It is seriously much softer and smoother now. All the little annoyances I used to feel on the road are now completely eliminated. C is definitely the way to go if you are mostly on pavement. I am bot done with the suspension and will focus next on my sound system. Big thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread as well as the TRD Pro lift thread. The truck is that much funner to drive now.

Looks great! Seeing your before and after wheels pictures has me all excited for my wheels and tires to come in next week.

And I decided today I'm just going to describe this suspension as the "I don't give a F" suspension because on the road I don't care what there is, I don't need to slow down. Driveways, railroad tracks, bumps, whatever.... I find myself speeding up a little for the big stuff that cars around are crawling over.

I know that is a horrible on road description but as I said all along, my rig is 95% pavement so....

Lift in - Sorry for the dirty after photos... just got back from trying it out.

Toytec 1" TRD lower perch (plus TRD 1" increase)
Toytec 1.5" rear spacer

FR - 34 3/8" to 36 1/2" = +2 1/8"
FL - 34 1/4" to 36 1/4" = +2"

RR - 36" to 37 1/2" = +1 1/2"
RL - 36" to 37 3/8" = +1 3/8"

Also blacked out the rack.

Only issue is that the caster alignment is 1.7 deg when the range is 2.5-4.0 deg. Shop says it can't be improved - Should I be worried?

So I replaced my T13 with the Dobs C59-327 and the measurements (ground to fender) are now

FR - 36 7/16"
FL - 36 7/16"

RR - 38" to 40"
RL - 37 15/16" to 39 12/16"

If anyone can help me answer this, is that too much lift for the FJ TRD lift kit rear shocks? Thanks.

Since the FJ TRD rear shocks are the same as the Bilstein 5160, 0-2" of lift is all they can take.

The T13 springs are 1.5" lift and you gain another 2" with the Dob springs which gives you a total of 3.5" of lift.

i.e. 38" with the 1.5" lift T13 springs means your factory springs should be 36.5" So with Dob 40" your actual gain is 3.5" over stock.

So yes I would say that is too much.

What was wrong with the T13 springs that cause you to change them? The back now looks like it skipped leg day at the gym.

Really appreciate the response! Yeah it felt super funky after the 327s were on. I was body rolling much more than OEM from what I remembered.

And I agree with you. The T13 stance looked great with no/minimal load but the T13 sagged like crazy when it was under full load (pic in previous recent post I added).

Mike recommended them to me. I told him the situation and since he helped a bunch of other people on here and their stance looked great, I didn't do any further research. I wish I read up a bit more. Costly trial and error I guess.
