Bilstein Tundra BTS Assy/System on 3G T4R?! (Firmer front dampening option...)

Hey all,

New(er) member here, as well as a new(er) 4Runner owner. I'm shopping for new shocks and wanted to start a new discussion about running Tundra suspension on a 3G 4Runner. Been done before, I know (the search feature is an amazing thing). :thumb3:

But read a little further... I realize that there have been many threads talking about the Tundra OEM Bilsteins + Tundra TRD front springs (achieves a 1 3/4 - 2" lift), but I haven't heard anyone talking about using the BTS-7514 front Tundra Bilstein coilover assembly on a 4Runner. Looks addly like ToyTech's coilover assy:

It would deliver the firmer dampening levels that people have been hunting for, adjustability to scale your lift as you get braver with UCA/LCA/rear builds, and a firmer spring rate for the eventual front bumper/added weight. I haven't seen compressed/extended dimensions, but I'm assuming that since this is capable of a 3" lift on a Tundra that it is a longer front shock assembly, which ALSO means more suspension travel. From other posts I've read, it looks like it would add about 3/4" of travel. Why aren't more people running this setup; is there something I'm missing?!

Other options: Taco 5100s
I'd read before that the dampening levels on a Taco 5100s are soft. Installed some on a buddies 3G T4R, and he has also complained about the wallowy feeling they have given him (he also installed ToyTech rear Billys w/ upper adaptor). He said that compared to his previous lifts, it is really soft. His wife likes it, and says it does a much better job of isolating bumps from the cabin while off-road. It felt really soft to me as well. But I didn't get enough seat time with it to narrow down if it was the stock front/OME 906s he was running, or if it was the lower initial dampening levels everyone complains about.

My opinion is based compared to the new 2012 TRD Baja Series Tacoma. I was lucky enough to get a ride in one, and the TRD engineers and Bilstein gave it really firm dampening that makes it inspire confidence on the street as well as the dirt. I guess I'm hoping to get that same sort of feel out of the 3G T4Rs suspension. Thoughts?

More fuel for the fire:

The valving and length numbers (from the thread I linked over to above) on the 5100 series shocks are as follows:
Tacoma Reb 228 Comp 73 Ext 473 Comp 352 (4.76" travel)
Tundra Reb 303 Comp 96 Ext 474 Comp 335 (5.47" travel)

So you'd gain a lot of up travel and a mm of down travel, for a net gain of 3/4". Personally, I'd want to set it up height-wise as a slight lift (vs stock) with more down travel.

I would definitely like to know if anyone has used these. If so, ride quality, amount of lift? I have driven the baja, and I love the way the suspension feels.
