Since COVID isnt slowing down I have decided to take the opportunity to build up my 4runner. 2003 4runner Limited with RAS.
So far these are the things I have done:
- XREAS delete and replaced with Bilstein 5100 on STOCK coils. Levelled at 0.85"
- swapped out the factory JBL headunit for the Sony AX5000.
- did a complete undercarriage sandblast and treated with epoxy.
- TRD Pro wheels with a set of Wildpeaks waiting to get mounted.
- All new weather stripping on all windows.
So the question now is what's next? I have a couple things in mind but need some suggestions picking parts.
1). RAS delete - Guess there's really only Metatech that has a RAS to coil conversion kit.
2). Coil replacement and bigger lift- I'm running stock coils with 5100s right now and hate the ride. Definitely feels better then my blown XREAS but it just feels so rough and choppy. Maybe its the preloading on the front coils or the RAS (re-built)?
Would swapping out the coils help or would I have to just go for a completely different suspension system like OME or Dobinson.
If sticking with the 5100 what kind of coils would you guys recommend? I hear great things about bilstein/ome, bilstein/dobinson, bilstein/toytech combos but theres just so many it's overwhelming. This is majority an everyday and family pavement princess. No armour right now.
3). Awning - Good budget awning for the day or camping trip for the family? Was looking at the ARB or Rhino Rack Awnings. Goods? Bads? Recommendations?
4). Sunroof delete? or just bite the bullet and replace it. Mine's completely messed and jammed. I siliconed the crap out of the to prevent further leaks.
5). Full length roof rack or roof basket. We don't do alot of hauling on the roof but ive also like the idea of getting something sturdier and more user friendly. We are considering getting a roof top tent in the future but that's still undetermined since we have a little tow camper. Any good alternate to the Prinsu racks that cost an arm and a leg?
6) Anything else? Would mind setting her up for some offroading but also don't want to sacrifice more fuel economy then it already is.
This is not a performance vehicle nor am i super mechanically savy. Most mechanical work will have to be done by someone so I don't want to break the bank... at the same time if I have to spend the money I will.
