Bimrunner Build Thread & Pics

There should be a license plate bracket that mounts to the attachments or the swing arms. There is also a spot on the gas can carrier to mount the plate. The led bolts work great and mount the plate just like license plate hardware.

Looking good Ben!

Hey man, love your rig. Would you be able to go over your radio set up, especially the components that you had for the CB using the front AM/FM antenna (I know you've switched to HAM since then).

Sure. Super simple: 3' firestik, antenna mount adaptor with spring (from FJ forum group buy - Google it and you'll find he still puts the together and sells for $30 or something like that), a am/fm splitter from flea-bay and coax run into the cab to plug into my cobra CB. Honestly, haven't used it since going to ham and the firestick location at stock antenna is not optimal but is convenient. Lots of decent write-ups on the FJ forms and is essentially the same for the 4Runner.

Awesome, thanks again!

Well, I've decided enough time has gone by and I need to finish my build... at least until I beat the snot out of it and am ready to give up anti-lock breaks, traction control, swap out the t-case, have a custom rear axle made and drop some dana 60s in the sucker.

So it's going to be LT for me in the All-Pro flavor. Again, I've copied enough of mikey's2010SR5 build, so why stop here? Going with the same kit and copying his Axle setup too (All-Pro outer boots and inner boots and extended axles from CVJ). Probably won't install for a couple months due to schedule, but I'll get to it.

What swayed your decision for the All-Pro kit vs the Total Chaos? Are you going to run the Total Chaos tower gussets?

Still can't believe mine isn't in yet.

Yes. I think what swayed me was since I wanted the all-pro outer boot I thought I'd just get their kit. Also slightly less (not a big deal). Very similar kits in all, but I also liked the bigger ball 1.25" versus 1" on TC. I'll be adding tower gussets as well.

Why not just go the whole 3.5" , lol. I'm looking forward to the progress. Truck is already tits man.

Bobby

If I went 3.5" I'd be wanting a new rear axle so it would look more proportionate. If I was getting a new rear axle housing and custom axles, I'd want a Dana 60.... And a Marlin crawler tcase.... And a solid front axle...and 37s or 40s. I had to be realistic. Lol

Funny... I know a guy.... Who has something very similar with an 80 9" front axel... Goes by the name Medic I think, I know him by his real name as he lives around the corner from me :-)

I am with Ben. I think it looks odd to go 7 inches wider up front and stock width in back. I am cheating and putting spidertrax in the rear to get the track width close.

For me I didn't go all the way because a lot of trails are tight and that extra width might be tough. Also no fenders available.....yet.

I'm with Ben too, but like option 2 the whole make over much better. :smokin:

Spacers in the rear is fine to help even out the front on 2" plus kit. That is exactly what I would do. I just go back/forth on the 3.5" verses the 2". The track would be a lot wider up front as mentioned and trail navigation would change a bit too with a 3.5" kit.

The new All Pro kit look s much improved. Looking forward to your experience.

Curious to see how this comes out. LT front is still in the back of my mind....

I went wheeling on a few trails with an LT +2 TC FJ on 35" tires last weekend. I expected him to be doing amazing things, but my truck seemed to do much better on the same obstacles. I think his main issues were no front locker stock gears and not the best tires... I also think his springs were too stiff for his weight. My truck was all flexed out and creeping along where his seemed to be bouncing around searching for traction.

I also think a lot of guys try to increase total lift with the LT kits and then lose the extra droop they should have had. That makes a difference too. I actually really like my height with close to stock rake just 3" higher all around. I just want more flex and better boots than stock to handle it all.
