Black JDM Headlights......who all has them?

I baked mine at 325-350 for about 5-7mins. Use EasyOff oven cleaner to strip the chrome off, only takes a few minutes. Scuff with steelwool and apply what ever color suits you. Krylon Fusion is what I used. Put them back together, put in the oven for another 3-5 minutes and press them tightly together. I used rope caulk around the seam to ensure that they are leak free without making a mess.

Since then I have done the fogs as well. Same procedure, turns will be next.

Here ya go, my camera is on its last leg so if I get something better I'll throw on. The turn signal is not done yet, maybe soon if the weather stays nice. You can see the contrast with the blackedout fog lamp.

That does look really cool. I suppose since the fogs are projector beams, it doesn't make any difference? Cool idea!

I can't tell any difference in the light output, they don't seem to be that bright anyhow. The camera is going back for service, second time now. I'll try to get to the turns soon then the whole front will be blacked out. Stealth style, then I'm thinking of getting the black magic hellas and of course i'll be talking to burtman about some black tails then.

That is going to look really good. I am swithing my Hella 500's to Black Magics. A client of mine has a couple of sets he is going to replace with something else and hse said we would just give to me, so I can't beat that.

That aint cheap either, I had an ofna 1/8 and an XTM X-factor monster truck. Fun as hell chasing dogs in the park, my dog as well. Sold them to fund somthing else.

Sorry for the late input to ya Momo... I have blacked out my housings, sold them, and bought the Burtman ones.

I am not going to replace the headlights with HID ones because I don't want to see the hot spots getting brighter and the dark spots still darker. Any more contrast will drive me insane. I like the looks of the blacked-out ones that Burtman sells, but I wish they had the consistent beam spread of the OEM lights without the blacked out shrouds.

BTW: baking them at 450 would not be good. Try 250 for 10+ minutes - that loosens up the silicone just fine. 450 might melt thinner parts of the housings.

Hmmm...Is the beam pattern similar and would they accommodate some aftermarket bi-xenons??

Well, the japan ones are setup for Right hand drive, but these are for regular left hand drive. A lot of people have the ones I've sold and I'm sure you could do it and make it work. Remember though, aftermarket headlight don't always perform as good as a stock headlight... There are many with these that do like them.

The ones Jason sells fit perfectly and that made for a VERY easy install. Alot of people with those love them and didn't notice any beam spread difference, but a couple of people, myself included, did notice a negative change.

Caviat: before purchasing the black set, I painted my original OEM housings black and noticed a difference then too.

Conclusion: although it doesn't appear to be this way, the shroud that is the blacked out portion is supposed to be reflective by design, to fill in and complete the beam spread.
