Black rubber/vinyl fender flares faded

My fender flares are faded and noticably aged. I was wondering for anyone whose had this, did you repaint them? How did you do it? Or did you just replace it?

Yeah,the 3rd gen flares fade bad as time marches on but there are option. I've used several drifferent trim shines and the one by Meguires works well but these tend to only last a month or two at best. There is a thread with pics showing my results and they look good but onlyu for a short while .

Another option is a plastic paint and I think Duplicolor makes one that works really well I've heard and am antsy to try it. I've also heard of plastic dyes that work on older plastic. I'm doing some research now so I'll let you know what i find out.

Krylon fusion also works great for plastic fender flares. No priming needed, used it on my Jeeps fender flares and it looks good

Leatherique makes a nice bumper dye that works well.

Some guys have had good luck using a heat gun to bring oils back up to the surface. Probably best to take them off so as not to hurt the paint.

Painting plastic is never as easy as it sounds. Or should I say, painting plastic and having the paint stay on is never as easy as it sounds. The pores in the plastic hold on to chemicals that often make the paint peal. Yes there are products that you can use to counter this, and special primers too. But as a life long body shop guy, I would not choose this route as my first option.

Of course I'm a skeptic, so when I read on this forum about this product I was UBER-doubtful. But here is my write up on it. Coincidentally it was the first write up I did here. 32 months ago and I can now say it was a good product, well worth the time and cost to do this.

Now I preface this with the fact that I did this to my front lower bumper. Heat gun is not really a long term solution but dye might be. Personally, best solution I have come across is plastidip. If you ever decide to try this method, make sure you get the surface cleaner they sell as it works well. One of the beauties of dip is the ease to repair....Youtube has a ton of good videos on how to use the produce properly. My front lower bumper is going on two winters without issue.

TriNova Plastic Restorer

I just got a bottle of this in the mail yesterday, going to put it on the bumper and roof rack. Main reason I ordered it is to shine up my wife's Rav4 that we are selling...I'll post photos once I see how it works.
