Black wheels

What finish on black wheels?

I have a 2005 White sport edition 4x4 with a cornfed 3/2 lift. I am thinking about powder coating my wheels black and was just wondering what would be better, matte black or shiny black? Any opinions and pics will help me decide.

Between matte and glossy, definately go for the matte. But I also would lean more towards a satin finish and satin clear.
 
I vote for gunmetal grey or very dark bronze (just enough to offset black) just because the black wheel fad is really being overplayed.
 
This'll probably get shot down, but I've been a fan of the Hammerite paint look on wheels. Have seen it done black and silver, and I like it a lot.

(Hammerite is a metal paint you can get in Europe, it gives a hammered look to the paint, hence the name - I'll bet there is a US equivalent, I'm just too lazy to look for it at the moment).
 
Satin Black! It lies between matte and semi-gloss. I painted my own wheels so I tried various finishes before deciding on satin, semi-gloss seemed to shiny to me

I went with a black powder coat called low gloss, it was inbetween flat and satin. hopefully will be ready mid to end of next week, will post pics when done.
 
i voted matte. i had my wheels powdercoated flat black and love how they look on the silver. i have also seen white runners with powdercoat black wheels and i think they look great.
 
To me, black wheels look like they're covered in brake dust. I prefer a machined finish like the stock SE wheels.
 
I just did mine today with my friend, took about 5 hours. Just make sure to sand with a fine paper. Do not over-sand it will leave visible grooves even after multiple coats of primer and paint. Also, I recommend you use one of the plastic spray gun attachments, it was alot easier to lay evenly with one.Use brown packaging tape to tape off te lug nuts, everything else i tried didn't stick. I used Krypton Semi-Flat on mine, and he used Krypton Flat black on his explorer. He will disagree, but I think the semi-flat looks much better than the flat. Excuse the neons, I don't feel like taking a pic with them off.

I've got the natural white and im planning on powdercoating my wheels a satin graphite grey, with matching nerf bars and rear hatch garnish.
 
Matte :thumb: And here's why - I am not in the habit of applying tire shine all the time so what happens is that the gloss black wheel stands out way too much on a matte, non-detailed tire. The gloss texture vs the flat finish on the tire was too much contrast for me.

Here are my SCS Performance Stealth 6 wheels. They are a fantastic wheel with the perfect offset and the split spoke design kind of reminds me of my all time favorite Toyota wheel - the SR5 wheels which came on the 1st and 2nd Gen SR5 runners...

Pc-d TE wheels

My 2cents went with flat because most of the black on mine is plasti-dip so sorta match's up .
