Just a small update, I went ahead and threw some ceramic silica spray on over my nicely coated shiny ceramic coating, this just adds an additional layer of protection and gloss. May add another one before winter, but this stuff's supposed to last 6 months. I only took 1 pic because I was trying to coat and buff each panel as quick as I could, and it was super humid so I was sweating my sack off

Paint looks incredible - like new. As a fellow detailer, lots of appreciation for this level of time and work. Nicely done.

Couple small updates, nice and shiny truck

Got the roof rack completely mounted last night, still needs a little adjustment but I needed to drive the truck to work for once. Haven't driven it in almost 3 weeks lol. Grabbed some sun shots, will have more proper shots later today hopefully

Got some work done on the retrofit last night. Got the MLED projectors out and started taking them apart. Would be nice if Morimoto used 1 freaking screw head for all it's parts instead of like 4 different ones, but whatever

img_20190919_195047_52bc9e747e247c86bcb414c8ad64ffb38a362a27.jpg

I opened them up only to surprise myself and find that I actually did the chip flip mod back in November when I bought these things and forgot that I did it.

Chip Flip Mod

img_20190919_195211_bb2574042515701095f9a5969ec5d6b8d3f60be5.jpg

So then it was time to take the whole things apart

img_20190919_200059_80f9d4bf22b03cb12c049b95bba74ad1452b3c9c.jpg

Took some work to figure out how I was going to mount the demon eyes that I bought for these projectors, I had already attempted this twice. But thankfully I found some brackets that lined up and were able to make it work. Here's me lining up the brackets.

img_20190919_200102_940060a092a97a0e59df3ef2e7d4479394bd932f.jpg

And here's the projectors all reassembled with the 4Runner brackets and nylon washers, with the demon eyes installed.

img_20190919_211625_9e46360915d97b4d5fa430a47054acce3d0a3346.jpg

And here's the finished product all ready to bolt into the headlight housings :thumb3:

Here's another project that I actually started Labor Day weekend before the detail, but didn't finish until last night. I got most of the hard stuff done back then but had a few things that needed to be finished up. I got a front and rear dash camera, and installed them before I started my marathon detailing, polishing, ceramic coating extravaganza. I got the Blackvue 2 channel 4K dash cam with the backup battery.

img_20190830_154223_93125f4a0c7bde09f2f945c5fdb4acb7f86b8314.jpg

I didn't want to mount the battery under the seat so the glovebox was the most logical. Here's a before.

img_20190830_160324_a0106afd77a7a9eb950b39c0db037642ba12b0ac.jpg

I also spent big money on a blend mount for the rear view mirror. This thing was a HUGE pain in the ass to install, but so worth it to stealthily hide the dash cam. The rear mount was 3D printed by a member on here

img_20190830_161221_c1a519ecda9e7962c1b0e0bc77b65ba8971095c7.jpg

And here's the new fancy camera

img_20190830_162630_5958810ddf5a8774779a2a444605649f9f85a5b1.jpg

Here's the camera mounted up to the rear view mirror. I didn't like how low the camera hung down with the middle piece in the bracket so I removed it to raise the camera up more behind the mirror.

img_20190830_172035_335b8d6aad86131709f25e7faac73c52e0b59516.jpg

And here's the camera all installed. It took me an hour and a half of fighting with the blend mount to get it where I wanted, but I had never worked with one before.

img_20190830_172047_7d271ae31b403d241053fdd67e6c84c90cd75d7b.jpg

I didn't take any pics of fishing the wire back, but it was actually very quick and easy. Here's the rear camera all mounted up.

img_20190830_185413_fb5c803cd7981f9baafe1b5e96f5aae5003d0fde.jpg

After playing with it I got it situated to where it should go

img_20190924_182732_1__090930e1be469e437ffc44ddc610c2862d68bcab.jpg

img_20190924_182741_1__2aa9bf33e949b3e54b12702c8d8eba9f75b8cd09.jpg

I also bought this fancy backup battery so that the camera can record in parking mode without having to draw on the car's battery.

img_20190926_195329_fd91b081716e4a3eb05c9392d178f8365ac3ec8a.jpg

One thing that set back my install was they provided 3 types of fuse taps, but not the kind I need for my truck. My truck uses the low profile blade fuses, I had the same problem when I tried to install my amber grille lights back in the day.

img_20190914_171936_c40ec2ceecd7d9af770d271e01bf982d34c2d1d8.jpg

Here's the fuse tap all installed, it's the one to the right with the yellow fuses. I needed a 20 amp circuit that only came on when the key/ACC was on, so I tapped the heated seats circuit. I was able to fish the wires up behind the dash and get the positive and negative completely out of the way of my foot when I hit the e-brake. This is the hardwire for the battery power to charge and activate when the car is started.

img_20190926_195819_3653cbbdf53e8eb48a36fea8ccf9c2396b90d3e5.jpg

The dash cam power comes from cigarette lighter plugs, male on the camera power and this female connector coming out of the battery unit.

img_20190926_200048_73970b1a08706a3f7e4119801970e637ab11b839.jpg

I didn't want to have to hide the bulky cigarette lighter plugs, so I hacked them up.I tested which wire was positive and negative and then I cut the plugs up.

img_20190926_200452_ddd4799c0816784e8fdd69b35a7799aeca2bf82d.jpg

The 12v cigarette lighter plug had a built in glass fuse, so I got a fuse holder to take care of that. Here I spliced that into the positive wire.

img_20190926_201419_0cd04526548bcba7cd9cf4bece5e69022fede404.jpg

Then I soldered it up.

img_20190926_202100_746f6c82f6df05f02c8896ebe722ed718cf628b4.jpg

And here's the fuse all ready to be installed. I hooked everything

img_20190926_202500_cd7c3299cfbbd8028374ce5dfa1b233547ca4a00.jpg

In order to hide the wires I tucked the excess in behind the dash, and trimmed a corner of the glove box panel to better feed the wires. I had my iPod wire running through here and it was being pinched.

img_20190926_204707_06677784a8e9ab3ec010d2a8383f0415b1ed2238.jpg

Here's the battery all installed. I plan to reroute the wires through the cigarette plug grommet to the left, but I will have to take the glove box out to do that. I wanted to try everything out before completely burying the wires. Still came out pretty clean

img_20190926_205528_d6eedf9d20697c61e9aaeed5becf885e003a0b35.jpg

And here's the glovebox closed, you can't see any wires sticking out anywhere.

img_20190926_205616_daaaa4be1bd6b82eb0a22099308168e43f6dc3df.jpg

Couple small updates.... beads!!!! I never get tired of seeing this

img_20191006_162949_256369a2213c4cce7361b2be1bb4d97b4b0e555a.jpg

img_20191006_162954_8adcdf5add8147ec64a3e13209c2ee0b03ef65c5.jpg

Also I installed the Kurgo rear seat bridge for the dogs. I didn't like the drop off between the rear seats and the front seats. Always was worried one of the dogs would fall into the gap. Had a few close calls. Not a big fan of where the straps go on my seats, but I can always adapt.

img_20191006_165052_f7535701d049a0e5f83c977ecf9b19682a20adb6.jpg

img_20191006_165102_b72821b784e8373c179c780f3ae4cdeb9da0db25.jpg

Oh yeah, and those light things... I blacked out the big chrome eyebrows

img_20191005_135936_d8037f6099b83e610ab27628912b3a2572425a77.jpg

img_20191005_153006_56ead813150243def9caedc539f3c2533c4596e0.jpg

I left the center projector shroud chrome, going to try and mock everything up to see how it looks before I decide for sure. I think it gives a Johnny 5 eye kind of look

img_20191006_182102_063f0f7950146097c01b5af7722f2092e27fcfeb.jpg

So here's a small update, I picked up a new set of brighter sequential turn signals for the side mirrors. I then gave them the Black Ack treatment.

Unlike the stock ones that I painted before, these ones are white and not chrome

img_20191019_160046_9ac48b7436a13a77e4583004b4ea732beeb74d17.jpg

img_20191019_160355_3688d19df89ecc8c9db16eee1356a854a756b7c0.jpg

And here they are after 5 coats of VHT

img_20191020_193122_715cfb51e87802ce9e977ce0136d0beb0a825985.jpg

img_20191020_193128_a13887489dd282ca21a600b51aa10ab6fb990e80.jpg

They came out pretty smooth but I did want to get rid of any orange peel, so I wetsanded them.

img_20191026_152632_3b374492cf16d5d263eb2c5c8cbe1fcbae6b7bca.jpg

Then I started applying clear coat (note I had to wait for a warm day)

img_20191028_162933_71517af8e7591df75e2a38765e5a0e87476b0326.jpg

Here they are after 5 coats of clear, they look like glass

img_20191028_164146_2a5d326e143bc11d7831dd917e6c83da6f0eb411.jpg

And here's the finished product, going to wetsand the clear and polish them some night soon and get them installed

img_20191028_180302_eacf329ca89f9c7c4a4ac47696b4c6fb7ea70333.jpg

So I wrapped up 2 small projects this weekend. Haven't had time to mess with the headlights, but I got the mirror turn signals wet-sanded and polished.

img_20191101_172022_55cd408416b6cde55b2eb222a81f98f5b6419d50.jpg

I also got a new set of Meso puddle lights for the mirrors as well. Been waiting to install them together

img_20191101_174307_3dcf3df336b7624006162a8016879ad4a571ccf2.jpg

Here's a before of the old ones that I had installed

img_20191101_174723_0c14ae66f61b4cc6fa476718347a27e9ac7dc5e7.jpg

And here's a side by side of my first set of night-shaded stock turn signals next to the new ones.

img_20191101_181404_624dbe549fb64b97453f8d3389b321308814b5b9.jpg

And here's a before with the new bright ass puddle light pods.

img_20191101_175220_19829b76f146db8b5b9faefda8a525d4514dd81b.jpg

Here's the new sequential LED and smoked turn signal, they are WAY brighter than the stock ones.

img_20191101_180403_752e833d506a8d9ed46fe934c51133f2781ce8d7.jpg

And here's a side by side of the old and new, old on the left, new on the right

img_20191101_195137_aee4929f28e4d951539c1aca398b625542594262.jpg

And here's a side by side of the puddle lights, the left ones are just a T10 LED bulb, and the LED pod is on the right, I thought the left sides were bright until I put them side by side.

img_20191101_195303_593ceacc5308d7222516c5dd4fc051110325b499.jpg

Crazy difference

img_20191101_195306_f6a47b04c84e5bdd00e19a39e9d52491f8cb350d.jpg

And here's a closer up of the light output of the new pods

img_20191101_195316_2ea4ea150e0afc9a063e490c4367f49eb88ac0fc.jpg

And here's a closeup of the old one, it's crazy the difference in output

img_20191101_195321_93176faa26c1b84cad796fb524a9e3f4e3b433a7.jpg

And here's the new turn signal installed, looking nice and sleek. Blends really well with the mirror housing.

img_20191102_125541_3af9d7b4d8a4ba949c164af131bc92e5179d41b4.jpg

Another cool fact is that our mirrors have a drain hole in the bottom

img_20191102_140045_6320f0a620ca1427e20e10beeb94bdcc28e20dbc.jpg

Small mod, but very much needed. One of my Black Friday purchases was a cellular module for my Accessorides remote start. I got a good deal on it and it was completely plug and play add-on to my current remote starter.

img_20191220_145437_22482718870989beb0dc5d8492a9db0083220d2b.jpg

I was surprised to find a perfect shelf in the top of the dash that looks like it was meant for this module. It needs to lay flat horizontally, and this little area was the perfect size for it to sit in. I secured it with zipties as well.

img_20191220_145825_fbbfa448814a3c46d8014be705933d647a25a82a.jpg

Now when I'm at work or out anywhere I can remote start the truck from my cell phone. I also can check to make sure that the doors are locked, check the battery voltage, and even lock and unlock the truck. It also has a GPS tracker so I can always locate it if needed. Very cool, and I literally just had to plug it in and set up the app. The remote start with the stock key is great, however at my new job I'm on the opposite end of the building from the parking lot, so line of sight is no good until I'm in the parking lot. With this I can start the truck and have it warmed up with the seat heater on before I even leave the building. Love it!

screenshot_20191220_164703_e8ea371fcfa4cb38ab8c2078d343596225fe04dd.png

I also like that I can check the status of the vehicle. What's the battery voltage? Did I lock the doors? It also gives you a countdown when the vehicle has been remote started (runs for 15 mins) and will countdown the amount of time you have to get in and drive before it shuts off. All very neat features;

screenshot_20191223_125406_191e94810395d98c1cc945c9e18132cf34ada289.png

So they finally came out with a fully blacked out tail light so I had to jump on them. I sold my Depo blacked out tail lights and swapped the stock chrome ones back on until theses showed up. I love the look of these and they're what the back end badly needed. These will match my blacked out headlights so much better.

And here's the tail lights unboxed

img_20200313_222711_fd54d0be313e80bb8f6479b707d7308f9592398b.jpg

I really like the look

The only thing I didn't like was that you have to swap your stock wire harness from the stock tail lights, but it's super simple. I had to do this on my 4th gen tails as well.
