Blacking Out the Runner's Chrome

Holy crap...that crazy auction ended...some "lucky" person walked away with that kit for $169.50!!!!! :faint:

Wow. That's insane. I have seen him go through 3 groups of a dozen, but never seen them do an auction. Wonder if this means no more batches to come. Surely he wants more $$, we shall see...

I wonder how OEM it is? The seller won't respond with the part number.

If you're referring to the blackout kit, it's not OEM. The invoice bears the company name NOX LUX. Including pic of company letterhead below.

That said, I still believe this is what the SE Gulf States dealers are putting on their 'XP' SR5s.

I thought the original price of $79 was too high, but bit my lip and ordered anyway--but at nearly double the cost, that's crazy.

$80 for that? Plastidip is like $6 and you can black out even more stuff with one can

It's not for everyone. I prefer it over dip, as the blackout solution not only matches the rest of the 4Runner's black detail perfectly, but also doesn't chip/peel etc, nor will I have to worry about touching it up.

To each his own

plastidip matches perfectly and unless you are smacking your keys against it, it doesn't chip fade peel etc.... I blacked out the back of my 2011 and it look like new til the day I traded it in. You are right though... whatever floats your boat. I just prefer to spend money on functional mods

I like the look of the blackout kit, and wouldn't want to deal with plastidip. It seems much easier to apply or remove overlays. Plus, I just have an aversion to plastidip for some illogical reason.

That said, I wish this guy would just set a price. $80 is on the extreme upper end of what I would probably pay. The auction thing is just kind of obnoxious. It seems like he would sell way more kits at $80 "Buy It Now" then having to do a 7 day (or whatever) auction to fleece one customer.

Oh well. That's the free market, I guess.

Yeah free market indeed, but holy hell. Another just sold for $160.

At least he only did a 24hr auction last time. Wonder how long it'll take to hit market saturation. Looks like only 5 unique bidders last time, 6 in the previous. I've got no issue waiting it out.

Swapped the rear hatch handle panel out for the TRD/TE panel (black), and then applied the blackout kit. I have to say it was well worth the wait and looks awesome!

Shout out to d_clark

Next up, rear bumper garnish...

Does the hatch handle comes with the letters and emblem already? I'm looking to swap my 2010 SR5 Magnetic Grey chrome one with the current SR5 painted one. Looks good BTW

Im doing that to mine. Ordered everything a week ago and they sent the dealership a chrome one.

The emblem, 4Runner letters and panel are all separate parts. Its about $200 for the panel, $45 for the letters and <$15.00 for the emblem.

You will need the items below, and don't forget the Back Door Outside Garnish Seal:
part #7681935010. (Thanks d_clark !)

Any tips on how to remove the front emblem on a 2015? I got the big black cover off in the engine bay but I couldn't locate the clips holding it in from there.

Are you trying to remove just the emblem, or are you tackling the TRDP grille?

The emblem is part of the upper grille, which comes out entirely when installing the TRDP grille.

I seem to remember there being a screw that needed to be removed first on my 14 SR5.

Just the emblem. Not the TRDP grille. I saw 2 screws after removing the black liner but it still wouldn't budge. Didn't see any tabs to pry.

here is another Black Out Badge Kit from noxluxled. I think its worth the money it looks pretty clean.
