Started doing the install for my dash cam, a Blackvue DR550GW - 2ch. It has both a front and rear camera and Wi-Fi for viewing video on your cell phone. Wasn't sure how I was going to run the wires and how to mount the rear camera. I have to say outside of the power cord, this is the easiest install I've done.
For the rear camera I purchase a L bracket from Lowes and mounted the camera to it using the supplied two sided tape. The bracket just slides in between the headliner and roof of the vehicle. The fit is snug so it won't move around but it's removable in case I carry any thing like my mountain bike that could hit or damage the camera when loading.
The supplied cable that runs to the front camera is simply tucked up under the headliner/plastic trim/rubber seals along the hatch/doors/headliner and front windshield. Nothing has to be taken apart or removed. The camera wires come down the front of the front windshield in the same spot as the mirror wires. I even used the plastic trim piece to hide the wiring.
The power cord is a different story. It's run up along the front windshield just like the wiring from the rear of the truck and comes out same as before. If you look at the attached pic, one wire is the wire from the rear camera the other is the power wire. The other end plugs into the power outlet next to the USB jack. This is where I'm not happy with the install as the wire is visible and I prefer it to be hidden. The rest of the wire runs under a trim panel just below the glove box.
Now that the hard part is done all I have to do is wait for the replacement mount for the front camera to come in. This system was in my FJ and when I removed it I couldn't get the front mount off the windshield so I had to order a new one. Once it's all installed and working I'll post some more pics of how the cable was routed and some example of video.
