Blower motor resistor

so I'm basically just asking for confirmation and not diagnosis here, but any input is appreciated.

of the settings on my HVAC, settings lo,2,3 all blow with the same speed, and high blows as normal. my thinking is that its the blower motor resistor, but just want to have the backed up or clearly refuted before i spend the $100 on the part

ill reply to my own thread, I've got no shame.

i just figured out the issue after pulling apart my dash for those who are interested/experiencing this.

so i pulled out the resistor/controlled (its more than just a resistor), which is located underneath and to the left (drivers side) of the blower motor. when i took it out a lot of water came with it, then water continued to drip after it was removed, so thats another issue. i took the cover off the resistor and dried it out, put dielectric grease on the terminals, plugged it in and it worked like new.

On my old Gen 3, water came in once on the floor on the passenger side when the A/C drain tube got plugged. This might be the issue here. I located the end of the tube in the engine compartment and pushed a piece of wire up the tube to unblock it. You will know right away if it was plugged because water will gush out. If this is why your blower assy got full of water, please let everyone know so we can all go out and clean out our A/C drain tubes before we start losing blower functions also!

Wonder where the water came from... Ice build-up maybe?

i was looking more and the water is crystal clear, which leads me to believe it could be a build up of condensation and not water coming in from an outside source. would i still need to worry about ice build up when its been 80+ the last few weeks? when i pulled it i had not run the AC in the past 3 hours

Well the Ice Build up is from condensation freezing in the blower motor housing from the A/C running is my understanding... But I have never seen this condition in person so I don't know how much water it actually produces once said ice melts.

i just finished putting it all back together, i ran the ac and pulled the cabin air filter to see if anything built up and i had no moisture, weird. i sealed the resistor so that theres no way any water can get into it, and it works perfectly, so I'm just going to hope for the best. was a $0 fix
 
The evaporator will freeze up as well if you are low on freon. Hence the water after it melts. Something else to keep in the back of your mind.

Do you see any condensation coming out of the drain tube? If so, it's not plugged up.

where is the tube? i didn't think to check that
 
Open the hood, pass side, look straight down along the firewall and you will see it. It actually drains directly onto to the top of the frame rail.
