Blown Head Gaskets

I recently purchased a 95 4Runner with 140k in april. It was well maintained and I knew the previos owner . My question is Is there any value to the rest of the vehicle ? Is any one in the market for a 4runner with a bad engine. I live in the Plainfield IL area. The cheapest repair I could find was 1350.00 for both gaskets Machined heads and Labor out the door including tax. My quandry is wheather to repair it or not . Hoping that something else doesnt give out. There is some small rust spots around the rear wheel wells and on the under carriage. The Trans was rebuilt once already . And has a small leak. Any one been in the same situation? Save or Sell as is? Thanks, Dan

It's a longshot, but I'd check with a dealer and see if the head gasket recall was ever done.

I think they have offcially closed this recall, but if not and if it wasn't done already you might be able to get it done...

Otherwise I'd bite the bullet and do an engine swap. But I'd be hesitant to do another 3.0 engine as they're so problematic. Look into a 3.4 swap, or even a Chevy V8...

Now that would make a fun truck. ;)

I am kind of in the same situation. I bought an 1989 3.0 last week with 223k, and my headgasket has blown on me. I did call a local dealer to see about the warrenty, but no dice. I would Love to do the 3.4 swap, but I am not sure about doing the swap myself. I would really hate to drop in another 3.0 time bomb though...
