Blu Logic + scion headunit question

I've got a 04 non-jbl runner. I plan on upgrading the stereo to a scion t1809 (PT546-00081) or the new scion alpine unit (PT545-00102). I would like to install the blu logic system but not sure which one I will need. I've done extensive research and cant figure out whether I need the large or small button kit (knockout plug). Does anyone know which (blu logic) part number i will need for the scion headunit? And are the knockout/blank switch plugs the same size for the scion and 4runner?

I'm planning on getting a T1808 and adding Blu Logic to my yet-to-be-delivered '05. This image is from a Sequoia and I think it might be the large knockout and the one we need. Post up if you find more info.

So I just ordered the scion T1809. I've read on a tacoma forum, where a dude installed blu logic in his taco and said that if you install the call/answer button on the dash (left of the steering wheel) then you will need the large button. But if you wanted to install the call/answer button in the center console then you will need the small button. Well, on my 4runner the knockout plates look like the same size. The (sequoia) button on the picture above looks more "square" than my knockout buttons. So if that is the large button, would I need the small?

Thanks

They make a kit for the current 4R. Perhaps those buttons are the same size as in the 4G.

Thanks for the replies ABQ.

I believe you are correct about having the large button.
After searching the internet for many hours and not finding a straight answer, I have reached my last resort. I called the local toyota dealership to get the correct part numbers. Well he couldn't help me either and tell me which size kit I need.

Here is the information I have gathered (please correct me if im wrong):

He did say that the part #s are regional. (This is why I keep seeing different part #s) Meaning the part numbers are different throughout the states and Canada. Same part might have a different part # in the northwest region as apposed to the southeast region. (not sure why Toyota did this) He did give me the "nationwide" part#s. Large Button=PT923-00098, Small Button=Pt923-00097. But like I said he couldn't tell me which one I need.

Well, during my search I saw a tacoma with blu logic install and it was pt923-00098 and the button looked like the same size as the 4runner.

Even though the blu logic was made for 08+ models, it should still work on the earlier 4th gen models because the stereo harness is the same.

I think Toyota changed the button size on the 2010 models to the small button size.

PT923-00098 is the same as PT923-00091, just an updated version if you will.
I guess the 00091 had static issues so they fixed the problem and when they did they changed the part# to 00098.

I think the blu logic for the FJ cruiser will work on the 4runner too, but not 100%
So I'm still somewhat confused on which one to get.

Hope this helps and makes sense.

So did you decide what to get? If I don't get a definitive answer on which to buy, I'll get a Tacoma set from someone who takes returns. My 4R should be here within a few weeks. I'm on the prowl for a good price on a T1808 and want to install the Blu Logic at the same time.

I think I'm going to go the same route as you. But I will be out of town until the beginning of next year, so I'll probably just wait until I return. So you will probably have yours by then. Let me know what you get and how it works. Good luck!

Can you measure a knockout for me? I'm gonna contact an eBay seller of a Tacoma unit and see if it looks promising before I buy.

I cannot measure the knockout button size because I am out of town and my vehicle is not with me. I think you should be safe ordering any of the large button kits: pt923-00091 or pt923-00098. Remember, i read that those kits are the same just 00098 is a revamped version, if you will.

As for being as simple as pnp with the scion. I think it will work. My theory is that the scion radios are pnp to our 4runners so the blu logic for the 4runner should work. The reason scion blu logic kits have different parts numbers as compared to the 4runners is because they use the small button size. And another reason it should work is because most of the scion radios that ppl use are out of 08+ scions.

Well, I ordered for a '08-'09 4R, and received the ultimate installation instruction pdf. Sure looks promising. There are, as expected, 2 options to locate the buttons. I should get the truck in the next week and install within a week from then. :fro:

So I found a post that lists the small knockout button dimensions at approx

1 3/8" X 15/16"

Part PT923-00090

I can't find the large knockout dimensions, but the part # is PT923-00098.

Here are instructions for a Tacoma installation with the large button: http://www.toyotapart.com/2008-2010...23-00098_REV._B_T-AI-0475-D_--PT923-00098.pdf hid kits

I don't have my 4R yet, so I can't measure, but if you scroll down to page 8, it looks like the size we need.

:thanks:
That actually looks a lot easier that I thought it would be!

Hey there ABQ,

So you did end up getting the T1808 and PT923-0091? I have purchased the T1809 + PT923-00095. I have yet to install it because I'm still out of town.

Thanks for all your help!!
