At least it's only held on by sticky tape. It's a strong tape but still tape. Do not use any cleaners to get off the residue. Wait a week or two before using cleaners on the paint. It needs to cure 100%, same reason I guess you need to wait before cutting it.

After checking out your pic I suddenly remembered seeing your rig just the other day. After all, it's not often 2 first gens cross paths, coincidently, in a small parking lot, haha. I remember thinking "damn!" thats shiny and nice.
My Runner needs paint badly!! I'll be sanding and priming panel by panel (and top) this spring through fall.
Its funny that you mention the whole window trim issue. My front glass is on crack, and I was hoping to replace the chrome trim for some type of rubber window trim.

There is a thread on YT that has the part number for a rubber black gasket that you can use instead of the chrome trim. Apparently, this was available in Japan, but not here. I think this is the thread:

Man that looks nice! I got to wait a while but hopefully I can get mine painted eventually also. The black looks super clean!

Well, I stripped off all the silver trim over the fenders and painted the windshield trim black and finally got it on. As soon as I got my 4Runner back from the body guy the timing belt broke - I replaced it along with a new water pump. At the same time my fuel gauge stopped working and my 4Runner is revving out of control too .. TB problem .. again.
I bought a replacement instrument panel to hopefully fix the fuel gauge since the connection test says the wiring from the fuel tank is still good.
One of my valve cover gaskets is leaking oil again even though a rinky dink shop (almost a year ago) replaced all the upper motor gaskets. That shop turned on my CEL (throws trouble codes 43 and 52 ever since)
Problems just keep popping up.
Current Problems:
1. fuel gauge stopped working
2. 4Runner revs out of control
3. need better radiator
4. need to replace the valve cover gaskets .. again ... and turn off the CEL

Put a better radiator in - replaced a rear coolant hose with clamps too..
Installed a used instrument panel - everything works.
I've found a TB for $25, I've cleaned it up and installed it - same high idle remains.
CEL problem and valve cover gasket leak and of course intake manifold and plenum gaskets and all that crap will still have to wait on the back burner.
(Could be a faulty knock sensor down there, hopefully only the pigtail needs replacing)
