My body man just called me and asked if I wanted the texture sanded for the flat black paint. I immediately remembered what you said here and told him to leave the natural texture the way it is.
Anyone disapprove?
Good call! Your choices of color and leaving the top a natural texture with flat black will look good together.

I won't have any progress pics because he's over in another town from me and he probably wouldn't want me coming around to look over his shoulder anyway. He has his own shop behind his house, locked behind a gate.
He did tell me today that he needs to replace my door hinges. Both of my old doors were bent in near the fenders from some previous owner so it doesn't surprise me if my old hinges were probably almost shot to hell. He just said they'd cost $100. So I called a local wrecking yard/auto parts place and they also gave me a price of $50 a pair. I also checked Craigslist in my local area for door hinges but came up short - nobody seemed to have any. So I gave my body man a hundred dollar bill for new hinges ... I hope I see a receipt for them when everything's said and done ..

I remember when you installed those on your 4Runner. 
I just want stock. I've always preferred a more stock look on everything, except for little stock tires with zero lift. I like a little lift with 32's. But the rest of a Toyota pickup/4Runner I've always kept more stocky.
I've loved Toyota trucks since I was like 19, so it's hard to believe that I've only owned two different Toyota pickup 4x4's in my life prior to my '88 4Runner which I shall indeed be keeping forever, with tender loving care. When it gets out of his body shop, this will finally be the Toyota I used to dream about for almost twenty years.
Just to clarify on how it will look:
Toyota's Dark Gray Metallic w/ original textured flat black shell.

Thanks, it actually looks better in real life than this pic.
I have two concerns:
The windshield trim had to be removed for body work and paint and now the only way to re-attach it is to trim off the clips and glue it down (without trying to remove the entire new windshield again .. could break) but the trim is silver and it would look much better with black trim now. My problem is where to find some kind of black trim that would be wide enough to cover the space all the way around the windshield and be glued down with no problems .. any ideas?
Also, is the new paint job supposed to be "cut" a couple months from now?

I was thinking of a type of black rubber trim because the windshield shop was showing me that their black rubber trim isn't wide enough to cover everything around my windshield... but painting it black would be the best thing, I can't believe it didn't pop into my head to begin with! thanks.
Someone told me that after two months I should have a detail shop "cut" the new paint job, a kind of buffing as far as I can understand so far.
One other thing, after my body work guy put the wiper arms back on I noticed that my wipers aren't wiping the water correctly. The wipers are almost brand new and were wiping rain water perfectly up until I got the truck back from him yesterday -- stormed hard on the freeway and I was having a hard time seeing. So is there a possibility that the wiper arms are somehow "angled" incorrectly now or something? is there some way to adjust them for the wipers to wipe cleanly?

First, let me say thast thing looks EXCELLENT!! Congrats!!
"Cutting" the paint usually refers to having it buffed with a high speed rotary buffer. Some people even wet sand, then buff. Just makes it look more slick than it does already.
You've likely got a little overspray on your glass. Get a straight stainless razor blade and some glass cleaner. Spray the windshield with glass cleaner and scrape it all down with the razor. Good as new!
I went with the rubber gasket when I had my new windshield put in, but scuffing the trim and painting it black should work fine too!

THANKS .. and I can't believe I didn't think of that either! I will clean the windshield tomorrow along with stripping off all the silver trim everywhere
(I forgot to tell the body man not to put them back on!) oops.
