Borla Cat Back Exhaust System Install

There is no performance advantage between the two. Performance depends on the design of the whole sytem in general.

As for other advantages, I like the side exiting because (since we can roll down our rear windows), it eliminates the chance of exhaust smoke getting into the cabin when the window is rolled down.

But no matter where you have your exaust exits isn't there SOME chance that exaust will get into the passenger compartment? i.e. side exaust getting into side windows and rear straight pipes getting into our 'Runner's roll down rear window?

less exhaust in my case

I know with the factory rear pipes, whenever I floored I could definitely smell the exhaust - borderline funny egg smell.

Since I had the Borla installed (side exits), I am noticing much less funny smells in the cabin with some and/or all windows down than compared to the single rear straight pipes.

My kids did complain within the first few hours that they smelt something funny, but it eventually went away after a few hours of driving. This funny smell was some sort of factory coating on the insides of the pipes burning away and is normal.

Looks wise...I personally like the straight rear look better than my side exits. But I am very happy with the Borla system. From the front-side views of the vehicle, the side exits look really sharp.

FINALLY someone who agrees with me that dual rear exit would look better! but I think because of the spare tire (and even more so with SE owners like me with XREAS) it's too difficult apparently for TRD and the other exaust manufacturers to make DUAL REAR exiting exaust. I've contimplated getting a Borla muffler for the '05+ V8 SE and getting custom pipes made. supposedly they're not too expensive to customize. but before all that I'm gonna get the Revo's before bad weather hits. so far the Bay Area hasn't had a drop of rain for quite a few months now. btw... that eggy smell is your catalitic convertor. maybe it was going bad or you used gas with too much sulfur in it. good to know you're enjoying your Borla system tho!

yeah you could go with a Borla Muffler and customize it all the way to the back. the mandrel bend and 1 million mile warranty is a good sacrifice for a system and look you really want - straight out the rear! good luck with what ever you do and u better hurry up on the Revo's. it's cooling down a bit but u should be okay. i use my 20 inch rims/tire setup for the summer and I will put back my stock setup when going skiing in Lake Tahoe. I'm in the east bay btw.

Later,
Gene
