Borla Cat Back Installed on 2014 TE

Decided to install this morning taking advantage of 50+ degrees outside. Took about 90 minutes to install/adjust and fit is excellent. After installation, took it on a 60 mile run on the Interstate. Here are notes from initial impression.

1. No drone, very little noise increase over stock exhaust. A couple of punches to accelerator and it is just perfect in noise. Not obnoxiously loud. Compared to my 05 V6 T4R with TRD Cat .....night and day. O5 droned at 1800-2000 RPM and noisy in comparison.

2. At cruising speed between 70-75MPH, car pulled hills better with less cycling down from OD. When I did punch it, downshift was normal, but faster on pulling hills.

3. MPG: As stated, just have 60 miles on it. However, I am up about 1MPG on this tank. This based on records I keep for each tank and I stopped at 30 miles and filled it up.

4. Major test and hurdle this evening....wife and I are going out and will see if she notices difference. I'm betting the noise increase is so small, she won't!

I'm considering the Borla also. I got my tr4 used and the previous owner had installed a Flowmaster setup. It's not horrible or anything, but the drone is a little annoying at times. I keep going back and fourth about swapping it out.

I test drove many t4rs while looking for mine. I'm not a believer in catback adding any noticeable power gains, but for whatever reason my truck really seemed have more power than others I test drove.

This is why I'm interested also. My 14 is wonderful, and [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] was very helpful in his "more smiles per mile" assessment, but the Flowmaster 50 I put on my old 07 XTerra made night and day difference. Probably a little over 1 more mpg and far easier to rev, and to therefore get on the power.

Which Flowmaster setup do you have that's giving you drone?
 
I have a Borla on mine as well and it was a good choice. My 08 Tacoma had a flowmaster and like others have said night and day for sound. I didn't do the kit I just ordered the muffler they used in the kit (according to rep at Borla it's P/N 40665 turbo XL) and welded it in.

Is it an actual cat back replacing the exhaust just aft the the 2 rear cats including the flattened crossover or a just y-pipe back? I've had my exhaust completely apart/off and it would be nice if someone made a true dual cat back exhaust to eliminate that bottle neck crossover flattened pipe.
 
I know Im not a 5th gen owner, but I know Borla is not cheap. Probably around 599-799 for the catback...couple questions is it even high clearance and you said you barely notice the sound? Why not go with a nice magna flow muffler and larger piping, take it to a muffler shop like marco muffler and have them weld you up a nice high clearance exhaust so if and when you hit the trails you have more clearance the 4th gen muffler hangs down low like the 5th gen does. With muffler and install I think it was $350 bucks. Not to mention the magna flow with v8 sounds amazing, sounds like a built small black chevy motor. I have a magna flow on my 22re as well and sounds amazing I will post a GoPro video for y'all today so you can see how good it sounds!

You paid $350 for sound? I would have sent you a CD with amazing sounds for only $10.

I didn't pay a dollar It came on my 4runner built by relentless fabrication I bought my fully built 4th gen for 13,800 with 70k miles from the original owner [MENTION=83685]4RunnerSeth[/MENTION] but it was not built for sound it was built for clearance as it sat lower then my rear axle. I have a purpose built 4runner not one of those pavement pounding princesses like alot of people :blah::sleepy::vader::gun5:






I think I would ripped off a bolt on borla catback if I didn't have that custom fabbed high clearance exhaust.

Its the Borla kit that bolts on from the y-Pipe with single rear pipe

It the Borla kit the fits directly into place where stock exhaust located. It is the same clearance as the stock exhaust. For me, did not want the roar of the Magna Flow as this T4R is mostly a road cruiser with only about 20% running on trails. From my experience, the Magna Flow is as loud as the TRD Cat muffler with 18" canister. At this point, I am experiencing better throttle response, less downshifting from OD and running at 1MPG gain over stock system. Noise increase remains minimal. This were my goals for installing the Borla. Will send a video this weekend.

watching that video makes me want a V8 4th gen.. just sounds soo much more mean haha
