At first I was nervous that he was jerking me around. Compound that with already getting screwed over by this dealership once, and I was pretty much tied in knots. But after he actually explained the process to me, I am at least a little bit relieved. The biggest problem I have is why he did not just tell me up front that he would not have anything until 30 days out? Instead of having me pester him every 2 weeks wondering what the status was, he could have just said, "I will not know anything for at least 12 weeks."
Yesterday was the first time I looked at the inventory for my region & saw the truck that was almost exactly what I ordered. If I had been a little more diligent (or if my sales guy was a little bit better than he is), I would have seen that sooner. I have not heard back from the dealer on whether he can get it or not, but if I don't get it, it will only mean another delay of a few more weeks.
As for the configuration thing, my sales guy told me that he can order any vehicle in just about any configuration. Unless Toyota specifically states that Option A cannot be combined with Option B, the region that I am in does not restrict a la carte option ordering. It may not be their standard template of what they usually order or get in, but they do not tell you that you cannot have a truck exactly the way you want it.
Of course, that may not hold true for all regions.
