last week I went out and bought a used 4runner 2005 and an 09 prius for commuting. After driving the 4 runner a couple days I wished it got the fuel economy of the prius. I've never driven a smoother vehicle with the number of miles it has on it (119000.) The damn thing still drives like new. I did have the timing belt, wp and other associated things replaced for piece of mind and paid 800 bucks. Now I'm looking at adding a couple things here and there. I figure I'll spend about 800-1000 on stereo equipment and brake controller stuff.
Just wanted to thank all for this site. there's so much info. I didn't realize how much money i'd save coming to this site (although I didn't do my own timing belt.) I have replaced those damn climate lights. One thing I'll post in a bit is a little trick I learned on the Honda Odessey sight. You can actually buy replacement bulbs at radioshack (1.99 for 2) and just replace the bulbs. They are not to expensive in a toyota but if you buy oem they add up if you have to replace a number of them.
I will also replace my gear oil in front/rear soon (2wd.) I was going to hold out for a 4wd but couldn't afford it. Now I wished I would have spent more on the T4R and less on a commuter. Shi!!!!! Oh well next time i'll know!!
