Bouncy rear suspension cure

really liek the feel of the 5100/TRD set up up front. In back im currently using OME 906s with bilstein HDs (4600) in back and the bouncy rear suspension is getting to me. I dont want anymore lift. any ideas what my options are at this point?

try running 890's in the rear to level the lift out

sounds like you need a stiffer shock to control those springs. I believe the nitro charger sport shocks are matched to OME 906. May want to check those out.

I have 906's on my 2000 and just installed bilstein hd's. the ride is softer than the ome 60028 sport shocks but floaty feeling. The ome shocks were way too stiff for me, i would like an alternative to the bouncy feeling bilsteins tho.

That's weird I have the same rear setup and it rides firm not bouncy? The blistein hd's are supposed to be a firm shock. I guess a solution would be to get a STIFF and I mean stiff setup with the Nitros cuz they're supposed be valved with that spring.

I guess bouncy was too vague. It rides fine until there is a bump or series of bumps that causes the back end to kick up a little, like train tracks. The shocks aren't stiff enough when they're extending I guess, the stiff springs shoot up too hard and fast for the bilsteins.

Did you extend your panhard bar or use a drop bracket? I know it seems like it wouldn't make much difference but it does smooth out the ride. I tried avoiding spending the extra money on them (I've bought 3 96,97,2011 4runners lifted) but they never felt right in the rear ends over bumps. I couldn't tell you if its the bushings binding a bit on the linked rear or what but my 2011 was horrible over bumps with the 700lbs (really stiff) springs until I added the adjustable panhard bar.

Traintracks are tough with any solid axle rear, short wheel base SUV like this. That was the one situation I found would unsettle my Surf, no matter which springs I had on the rear (stock, '99 tall, 906).

TRD/5100 set-up but then what wouldn't. Toytec also suggested the OME 60028. What about 5150s? Anyone know what the correct PN is for the 5150s? Are these two options longer eye to eye/stroke then the HDs?

They are a longer shock so might be better with this spring but yet they're softer. Have you checked your panhard bar? I remember mine was loose once and it gave a huge bounce to it. Once I tightened it problem solved.

I mean it rides pretty good with the 906/ bilstein HD but it feels like the spring rate is too high for the shocks, which I think it is.
The back end raises up a lot more when stopping hard compared to when I had the Ome 60028 shocks. The springs seem to shoot the HD's to full extension a lot quicker. Might not even be noticeable to some but I'm pretty critical. Overall the bumps are smoother out a lot compared to the ome shocks.

I wish someone made a 2 inch lift spring for the rear that was closer to the stock spring rate. I do not carry any added weight or tow but wnted a 2 inch spring. I believe the 906 is considered "medium duty"

I wanted 5150's but as far as I know they are discontinued and the 5125 is too long for 906 springs I believe.

If you don't mind feeling every crack and pebble in the road then the 906 with OME 60028 shocks is a good choice, my rear end felt more stable with them but I couldn't get over the harshness, my 9 month olds head was like one of those bobble head dash ornaments.

That honestly sounds more like a stiff shock problem than anything to do with the 906's.

Subscribed, following, ....and disappointed. Truck is at 230,000 with what feels like the original shocks. After months of searching for the right small lift/smooth ride combination, I had finally decided on the OME 880 w/ 9004 fronts and OME 906 w/ 60028 rears (for a small rake). I was ready to pull the trigger up until now.

On the road theyre stiff not jarring but stiff. Cornering nice. Off road they're really nice. I also seem to have more rake. No biggie really. Anyone know the break in period with the OME 60028s :deadhorse:

How do they feel now? I didn't think shocks needed to be broken in while I know coils settle. Have you noticed a change in the ride?

was that damping of the bilstein 4600s, which are spec'd for a stock ride height 4runner, suffered b/c the shock was being over extended in order to work with 906s + 10 trim packs.

The 60028s work real well with the 906s+10mm trim packs.

KYB's, original shocks and very bouncy

Hi i just replaced the rear struts in my 96 4runner with kyb gas adjust shocks however the ride in the rear is still bouncy and even bottoms out over speed bumbs. Does anyone have any advice on a remedy for this. Do I need to replace the shocks. Also i want to keep the car stock but the kYB's raised the front about 1.5 inches and I would also like to level it.
