Bow Hunters Check In.....

So who Bow hunt around here?

Lets see the trophy's you have bagged with them. I have been on the hunt for a Hoyt Charger and maybe a Bowtech Assassin also. Those are the two in my running any advice would be a hung help because it is all new to me.

Also I know this may sound silly but I was also considering this because of my draw length and total weight. It is light as hell and fun to shoot.

Don't have any pics of any trophies.... Yet. Looking forward to turkey season this upcoming year. Depending on how deep your pockets go I have the pse 3G. Not a bad bow light and decently quick. 33" limb to limb length. I like it... I would however own a Hoyt Carbon Element if I could afford it...
 
I'm still chasing my first elk. We could hear them snorting all the time last year, but couldn't get close enough to see or get a shot. Can't wait for archery season this year.
 
I'm waiting for Turkey season. I'm already stalking them. We have about 350 in our local flock right by my house.

I've got a Great Plains Texas Long Curve. Havent hunted with it yet, but I'll let you all know when I do...


I do like me some wild Turkey! :hungry:

along with a glass of wild turkey :beer:

^^^^^ Nice guys... Bow is something new to me.

I picked up this fully ready to go with sights, stabilizer, broad head, case, and about three dozen arrows for 300.00 I think I did ok in the deal. It is not a Hoyt Charger like I wanted but for a good started bow it felt good in my hand and it is light too. I'll give it this season and trade up for a Hoyt or Bowtech later. Looking at new cams maybe and a place to practice. I'll throw some pictures up later.

its been a few years ago now tho.
im still using an old Hoyt fastflight superslam.

that's the biggest one ive gotten. but ive filled quite a tags with that old bow. including a big cow elk.

I think that is going to be my next one. id like to have it this spring/summer with enough time to get in some good practice for this season.
 
I don't hunt, but I shoot a Hun riding bow in competition. No modern stuff on it, not even an arrow rest, it's my hand, and I have to ware a leather glove to shoot it! I could hunt with it, but I just haven't. I might do deer with some friends this year, as I'm already planning on going with them!
 
I shoot a Matthew's bow 75 pound draw, my 15 year old is getting a Mission bow this week. My 12 year old shoots a Mission Menace.

Turkey is our next hunt. I also have a Howard Hill long bow.

This is the set up im starting out with. It is not what I really wanted but I'm not going to sink in big money until I know this is something that I will love. I got a good deal for the set up I think. Anyone ever shoot a Martin Bow?

Had to resurrect this thread as I've never been hunting before in my life, and am considering taking the plunge into bow hunting. I come from a huge family of hunters, but unfortunately it stopped with my parents, and all the relatives who could teach me how to hunt live far away or are deceased :(

Is there anything I should know before getting into bow hunting? I'm well aware that it will be an expensive investment, which is why I've been hesitant to take the plunge. I also know it's extremely difficult to learn without someone to teach you, but I don't have any contacts and can't afford to drop the coin on a guide service and buy the necessary equipment on top of that.

If I bought a bow, I would just spend the next 11 months practicing and training for September.

check pawn shops, craigslist or anywhere else to get something used.

often times you will find complete ready to shoot packages. this will get you started for much less of an investment. as it can be VERY expensive. you can upgrade or swap out components as you get better.

make sure the bow can be adjusted to your draw length, and to a draw weight that you can comfortable pull often, and can maintain held back for
30-60 seconds without too much shaking.


also, get a target that allows broad heads, as not all do. you will need to make sure the bow shoots your BH's to the same point of impact as the field tips.

after that, practice. a lot. then when you think you are good, practice more.

no personal experience with martin. that thing looks very short! what is the axle to axle measurement? and what draw weight is it? it looks very small?





I finally upgraded my bow last year. I got the Hoyt Carbon Spyder Turbo I have been wanting. no big game kills yet, but I did get a grouse last year.
 
Going to go after a few ducks on my pond this year with my Martian 40# recurve. Should be interesting
